    Tyre Suppliers (Sydney)

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with any tyre places in Sydney recently? Any recommendations for places that are cheaper than most others?

I've had a look in the Recommended Suppliers section but there haven't been any recent updates for tyres in Sydney

Without wanting to create a "What tyre..." etc kind of thread I've found myself in the situation where I need to get at least one new tyre (235/70R16) but have considered taking the plunge and getting 4 of something bigger. More specifically, some 245/75R16s. Probably BFG ATs but possibly something else (maybe Toyo or Yokohama) after a bit more research.

So, where is a good place to start my tyre shopping in Sydney?

Not sure about Sydney specifically, but Jax-Quickfit have had much better prices than anyone else I've found recently. I was after Maxxis M/T's and Jax were $36 per tyre cheaper than Beaurepaires, K-Mart and Bridgestone up here.

One of our members who works in the industry gave a talk at our GM last Tuesday evening. Apparantly there are some substantial price increases coming in the next few months. Actually, I think one of them took effect from today. So I'd say it would be a wise move if you splashed out now and went for a full set.

BFG are phasing out the AT tyre but have introduced a new tread for the MT - claimed to be better (of course) and quiter than the old MT.

The At will be replaced with a tyre with a tread that is more road orientated and only has a two ply sidewall. Different compound though and a few little 'luggy' bits on the shoulder.

Some tyre outlets that I have found reasonably competitive on price AND service around Sydney are:

    Tyres Plus - Windsor Ph: 4577 2199
Baulkham Hills Tyre King - Baulkham Hills Ph: 9686 4606
and any of the Bob Jane T- Marts

    Hope this helps.

BTW - I don't know if you've joined a club yet but sometimes there are special deals offered to club members. I'm not pushing for club membership but it may be worth a thought.

I bought a set of 6 BFG M/Ts a few months ago from Tyresplus at Engadine they were the second cheapest behind TyresPlus at Windsor but only by $4 a tyre and only 3 minutes up the road, They even delivered the old tyres/rims back to my place (they weren't worn out )

Lokks like tyres plus scould be a starting point. - jump on the dog and bone

Worth giving these guys a call.
Milperra Tyre Service on 9792 2999. They seem to move a good amount of used tyres.

I was hunting a set of BFG AT in your size for my D1 and I bought a used set with 95% tread for $175 a corner fitted. I reckon I saved at least $400.

If anyone is still reading this thread...

I've done some phoning around today asking after:

    • Cooper Discoverer S/T
    • Maxxis 762 Bighorn

At the moment the price I am getting quoted around the $300-310 mark for either fitted.

Given that there is almost no difference in cost, which would be the better tyre to go for? I know there are a million threads discussing the merits of almost every tyre and have ended up rather indecisive.

Is the Maxxis expensive or the Cooper cheap? Coopers have got (supposedly) the better name but a lot of people seem to shun them. Maxxis on the other hand seem popular but are supposed to be a cheap brand. The Maxxis also seem to have a more aggressive tread pattern - would they be better off road compared to the Coopers? What I have found so far suggests there is little in performance between the two.

So, of the two, which would you go for and why?

    You're comparing Malaysian against American.

Can't comment on the Malaysian exchange rate, but we what's happened against the USD recently. Josh said the other night BFGs were going up significantly, I would assume other Americam stuff has to as well.

Those Coopers might go up any day now!

    Regards
    Max P
