Exclamation Any info on Kubota 10kVA GV3100?.

    .

    G'day,

Just wondering if anyone has any technical info on a 10kVA Kubota GV3100 generator?. I have the opportunity to purchase a very low hour unit at a reasonable cost to power my house as a standby, during various interruptions.

These units are about 8 years old, but I can't seem to find out much, other than going to a dealer, who all have a vested interest one way or the other. Any info appreciated.......

ive only delt with the kubota stuff as lighting sets but even then they are bloody good units for stationary stuff like gensets but they are very very prone to glazing and I have issues with the placement of the exhuast and air inlet as they tend to be close together and you wind up feeding it its own exhuast.

We use a few of them in lighting plants but are getting rid of them as you can't get filters for them easily and you can't rebuild them either. They are in Kanga trench diggers as well as bobcats,I have two on site and you can only buy genuine parts. They are being replaced by Perkin three cylinders. I have a Kubota 3 cyl diesel in my ride on. Its done nearly 3000 hours. Its reliable and very very well made but the price of parts is a killer and they can only be had genuine.

Fortunatly Fleetguard can supply all the filters (air, oil, fuel, hydraulics).

There's currently an ex Coates hire Kubota genset on ebay for a buy it now price but I could imagine how easily hire stuff in particular could get glazed. Most generators are under-worked.

I too am looking at diesel gensets for backup purposes. The Chinese stuff is cheap and very tempting............

Thanks all for the reply's, everyone that has had something to do with Kubota gensets, seems to like them. I know parts are expensive and another thing I don't like is that some are indirect injection and I cant source the db rating.....but this unit only has 41 hours on it!, has been tested etc.....also it is slightly older and lacks some of the latest gear, which to my way of thinking makes them more suseptable to auto shutdown & failure.

The other choices are, a more expensive ex Singaporian 3 cylinder Isuzu ( direct injection) driven unit which has been repainted with less than 3000 hours - to my mind may have been used in a marine environment, otherwise why repaint it?.

...or spend the extra and go for a new unit, ie Perkins, and I really like Lister, but hard to find one with an acoustic lid on it for residential use......

We have a 3-zyl Kubota, its indirect injection. Apart from needing a decent glowing when cold, its excellent, very low fuel consumption. It'd probably be quieter than a direct injection too.
