I would like to say that this is the silliest idea that has actually been proposed. Unfortunately, I can't say that - there is a lot of competition for "silliest idea", and I am sure everyone can come up with their favourite.

I have trouble actually deciding which one to put at the top of the list.

This particular silly idea at least has the merit that it is very unlikely to be implemented.

I think the solution for this would be for the govt to call for expressions of interest. Once these are received, they could form a committee to formulate the terms of reference for an enquiry into the effects of red pen marking. After 3 years this board should report back to the govt.
They can then form a review panel to discuss "workshopping" the recommendations to educational consulting firms.
These firms should then outsource the training and implementation of new coloured pen marking to a training agency.
This agency can then go through each school district advising the best way and colour neutral principles to mark assessment.
Once all stakeholders have been consulted, we can move forward to a more inclusive, non aggressive form of marking.

Of course, by time of final implementation, pens in schools will have been replaced by PDA's, microchips, and "youtube/wikipedia tutorials", and those children who found red pen "too aggressive" will be 25 year old inmates, mental health patients, rehab attendees and big issue distributors.

What is worse, banning teachers from using red pens or the fact that someone who we are paying decided that banning red pens was a good idea?
Seriously.....who are these morons who even let it get past the lips of someone raising it in the first place. We are going insane...a kid who complains cause a mum whips out a boob to feed her child....in the parents room........kids cant play on swings etc in case they hurt themselves....its not just the child but the namby pampy parents.

Can't have Xmas carols in case we upset the muslims....cant have golliwogs cause we might upset someone whose black.............its PC and patheticness gone mad. Even freakin Noddy is meant to be gay...he's not is he .

Half these idiots in the comfy government and council paid jobs wouldnt last 2 seconds out in the real world where you have to work your backside to make a $$$.....no clue what so ever. Bloody red pens.....pppuullleeeeeaassseee. Does my head in,

    Regards

I suppose this is just another thread that will ultimately lead to being about what you have experienced and the way you feel about it......
you know the old analogy ....."but if it was you.. how would you feel"
Let me start by saying by no means do l agree with banning a red pen is going to solve the problem....
l think its got more to do with teachers attitudes in the class place...for one im sick to death of the powers to be, putting some over priced so called experts into a think tank and getting them to pretend to come up with a solution for the greater good!!...but the ultimate tacit outcome is to find some way to shift the blame off "SOME" teachers for there inadequacies in the way they relate to the children in there championship !!!!!

Its a subject close to my heart and to this day l cant seem to let go of .."Why" ...l really don’t know but it had more of an impact on me than just a matter of making with a red pen !!

The setting was English Lit year 9 Richmond High school NSW 1984.....the teacher was handing back our major assignment for the yr (now this teacher and l didn’t really see eye to eye on a lot of things but never once did he feel he had to say something nice about anything too any student at any time )
No!! l wasn’t the best of students...but there was only one thing on my mind when l was at school and that was when can l get out of here and become an apprentice chef !!...and anything that didnt really pertain to this goal, for me had no relevance at all at the time !!!!

He handed the assignments back to there respective owners and whilst doing so was giving the hole class a blow by blow on each persons efforts!!! even (and l can still remember her name) sahra, the top person in the class got an A+ but to her amassment he said to her
"An A+ sahra, l expected a lot more from you on this one "

So he finally got to mine and said in he's stupid voice "Matt..a C- ...and I’ve attached an invoice for a new "RED PEN" you owe me for that effort”
“AND THERE WAS AN ACCTUAL INVOICE ATTACHED FOR THE CLASS TO SEE!!!!!!!!WTF”
But needless to say, my parents were brought in and the matter was swiftly dealt with buy the principle at the time, and a letter of apology was given to my parents and myself buy the teacher and the matter was never spoken about again.

But this has lived with me for all these years and whilst it may seem something trivial to some, the impact teachers have on there students is far more fundamental than an a “RED PEN” FOR GOD SAKE!!!!!!

    Cheers

So looking back...was the teacher right? I know there are instances of my youth...whether be a parent or teacher...where at the time I thought ahole.....later in life I realised I deserved it...whether I liked that fact or not,

Not having a go at ya mate.... but I have to admit, I think what he did was gold.....you sure didnt forget about it . Whose to say that you werent an underperforming student...you already mentioned that you just wanted to be a chef....and perhaps he was jack of the crap you kept dishing up. To be honest, I wish teachers did have more leeway in dealing with students. Sure I had some bastard teachers...one gave me a detention for farting...which I hadnt....I took the slip to senior headmaster who chucked it on the ground and said I dont mind the detention...but do mind your hair ( strict policy at school). Hard, tough and blunt at times....wish that was around in the class room these days,

    Regards

mmmmm.....l would love to debate this as I'm always one for a good debate but l simply can write fast enough

time, place, circumstance, situation, mind set, teacher, age, attitude, and down right stupidity are all factors, but I'm really agreeing that banning the "RED PEN" isn't the way forward ........

    cheers
