    2 Stroke Guru`s?

    Hi ,
I have a prob with my shindaiwa multi tool power head.
I have spark, I have compression, so it must be a fuel prob.
I cant seem 2 get it 2 run without areostart. When the areostart runs out it stops. I prime it with the bulb which forces fuel through the carby & then returns it 2 the tank. I even had a spare Walbro carby which I also tried (exactly the same) & again I can fire it up with areostart but unfortunately again it just dies as the areostart runs out
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers Dean.

    "to" not "2"

"Gurus" not"Guru`s"! It's bad enough with a normal apostrophe, but a reverse apostrophe is worse!

    We won't mention "areostart "

    Ahh, That feels better.

    If you've swapped out carbies, it won't be the diaphragm or pop off so;

check the fuel tank breather (does the tank suck in air when you open the cap ?)

If that's ok, check the fuel filter in the tank and line from the tank.

Does the carby use an internal or external pulse line ?
if external it could be perforated.

    Crank seals stuffed.

I`ll check the breather tomorrow. The filter is fine & the none of the fuel lines r perforated.

If its got a reed valve also check that. They bend and can break, and when this happens they wont allow the carby to pump at low revs.

If it has been sitting for a while, then also strip and rebuild the carby. The problem with 2stroke fuel is that if left it will dry out and start plugging the passages - yo ucan just blow these out. The other thing it does is stick the valves in the carby shut so the fuel cant flow. The walbro carbies are very easy to rebuild, though if you're not sure how to tune them, then DONT touch the fuel mixture screws. Also while its apart, clean out the filter mesh.

Rick also mentioned the pulse line... if it is an internal one, then double check that the gasket and spacer block (if applicable) are fitted the correct way, and that they dont leak - this is what makes the carby pump fuel.
    Cheers

The first thing to check with a 2 stroke is ALWAYS the plug. Try another plug.
Whilst it may have a spark, it may not be up to scratch. Also, another way to check fuel starvation is to remove the plug, place the spark plug hole near a small flame & pull over the engine. Should be an interesting result.
Actually with a small engine up to 50 cc you should get small puffs of flame.
No flame = no fuel getting thru.
Just be sensible around the fuel handling side of things.
