    I had reason to call a taxi yesterday,,
    and what should rock up but a Prius

    Kept me amused just watching the electrikery bounce around from place to place.


    What does the rest of Oz use these days as cabs?
    Theres a few Avalons around these parts.

    There's a Prius cab that "lives" a few doors up from me. Looks like it may be for demo/PR work, cos the number plate is "13CAB5".

    Just come back from Maylasia and Singapore, Maylasia's cabs seem to be mostly Toyota Corona's, look about 25 year old models and current Hyundais

    Fiji's taxi businesses are the graveyard of the old Toyota Crowns. Likewise Fiji's bus operators seem to have acquired all the world's stock of old Leyland buses.

    There's a few of those Chrysler "pimp" cars in Melb(....300C?).on diesel. Seen a few Ford Territory's too.

    Pretty much still just falcodores in Maitland and Newcastle... occasional tarago or hiace van for the bigger seating capacities.

    In India last year all they use are Hindustan Ambassador Classics, totally unchanged design and in continuous production since 1959 as far as I know. Noisy diesel clatter, dead slow, but a lot of fun! In Tanzania and Kenya - totally pimped out Toyo Crowns.

    They are not OLD Toyota Coronas in Singapore. Well not as old as they look.
    Singapore taxis is such a large customer, Toyota did a run of circa 85 Coronas in about 2000-2001 specifically for the taxi fleet which is about 5000 AFAIR.
    Now that is customer focus.
