    Snatch Strap Question

    Hi

Would a 11,000 KG snatch strap be to strong for a disco2? From what I understand it should be 2-3 times the cars weight.

Should I go for the 8,000 KG?

    Thanks

when it comes to safety there is no such thing as to strong. If it's not to heavy for you and doesn't take up to much space then get it and be comfortable that you have a greater safety margin when you use it. All of my safety gear is arguably overkill but it will never exceed it's design limits

11,000kg would be more than ample. An 8000kg would do. Depends on what you have to spend and brand. I have used 8, 9, 11 and custom 15,000kg straps.
8,000kgs is 8 tonne so at least 3 times the weight of your car. Basic safety margin of 2:1. In rope rescue we use 8:1.

    Cool thanks for that.

I am looking at the ARB 11,000 KG.. Just remember reading something about 2:1 ratio, and to ensure you dont get one that is too strong as it will not stretch as much and strain the recovery point

We have an 11000kg tjm strap, it doesn't strech much but it saved the disco when a tractor had to pull it out (would have broken a 8000kg strap).

    Hi Tim,

I would be suprised if a tractor towing a stuck Disco could snap an 8000kg snatch strap. From my experience of using tractors to recover our LR's and my 90 to recover our tractors on my parents farm the force wouldnt get anywhere near that. (Unless maybe it was on tarmac)

And believe me we have had some very stuck farm machinery over the years mainly driven by my Mum!!

Hi Craig , After what i have used and seen being used . the brand name doesn't really matter that much if being used properly IMO . I have a repco "maxi trac" strap and it works a treat . only paid $38 for it .

    EDIT : 8000kg strap .

    huh?

the total force required to debog any given vehicle in any given situation will always be the same...

snatch straps have a usefull life, if you were to use the 11000kg strap in place of an 8000kg strap you will get a few more recoveries out of it

2:1 is the minimum ratio for a snatch strap. IE if your vehicle weighs 2000kg then the snatch strap should be rated to 4000kg minimum
