$200 for a blend... NOPE!
Try some Japanese whiskys. They're certainly my favourite right now.
Smoky stuff isn't for me. Ardberg is horrible!
Never much of a spirits drinker. I do prefer Bushmill's 20 y.o. single malt to any other whiskey. Aalborg aquavit is a real drink. Fuelled Viking raiders across the West Sea in open boats to raid the British Isles and civilise the Irish.
The Tasmanian Whiskeys got a good report on ABC's "Landline" a while back, Sullivans Cove etc.
Cheers, Mick.
Glenlivet is going down a treat at the moment..;)
I like Irish Whiskey myself, enjoying a very nice Bushmills 10yr old single malt at the moment, but when I do have a Scotch, it has to come from Islay, made in the traditional Irish method, with one exception.
Just a little info;
The whiskies of the distilleries along the southeastern coast of the island, Laghroaig, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg, have a smoky character derived from peat considered a central characteristic of the Islay malts, and ascribed both to the water from which the whisky is made and to the peating levels of the barley. Many describe this as a “medicinal” flavour.
Baz.
PS, Brian, I think it would have been the other way around, the Scots and Irish civilized the Vikings, bloody heathens, gave you Whiskey and civilized you:p
Being a bourbon drinker I like Highland Park, its not as smoky as some of the others.
I found the Whisky flavour map most useful to explore different malts:
The Single Malt Whisky Flavour Map - A World of Flavour - Choosing Whisky - Home
I rather like Glenmorangie as well....
You can spend a few bucks exploring your preferences though.
