    I put it down to not offering the auxilary tank on the LC200s and the 100series wagons. That and using up the old narrow diffs on the 100series.

    Oh, and bulding the Prius.

    auxiliary tank is available on *some* 200 series wagons

    auxiliary tank is standard on ALL 100 series wagons, if you want, i'll go check on the one parked in my driveway

    auxiliary tank is NOT availible on a 70 series wagon simply because of the design...... just like the defender wagons, theres nowhere to put a 2nd tank that is a financially worthwhile option for the manufacturer

    the narrower diffs..... on a 100 series? yes, the early 100 series (98-00?) had a narrower front/rear hub-hub dimension than later 100 series, but IIRC the track measurment is the same

    however, for reasons that will remain unknown (though rumours persist that toyota had a couplly of hundred thousand spare narrow track diffs), when toyota changed from the 78/79 series commercials to the V8 petrol/twin turbo diesel 70 series, they retained the narrow track rear...... something while a detraction to the vehicles ability and popularity, had a negligible effect on sales, evidence enough that toyota felt no need to fit/offer SRS airbags to the 70 series commercial range across the board, they simply couldnt justify the cost to do it considering they already sell every 70 series they make without trying....

    what has really hurt, is the worldwide financial dramas, where individual consumers and fleet buyers are unwilling or unable to spend money on new cars, due to either severely restricted income or increasing difficulties in regards to accessing finance

    Yes you are quite right I said 100 series when I meant 70 series.

    And I was being facetious, I don't think anything will stop sales of Landcruisers in Australia. I've spoken to 70 series owners who freely admit the narrow rear diff makes it a pig on gravel but they always say they love them anyway simply because it's a 'cruiser. They're starting to get more like Landy owners everyday, though how anybody could love a Landcruiser is beyond me, but that's how love works.

    Aftermarket has tanks though, same as Defender, so why could'nt they put a bigger tank in?

    same reason as landrover only put a tank of a certain capacity in

    usually can be put down to cost, reliability, packaging, or warranty/servicing concerns VS actual need for larger tanks, the majority of buyers will never be further than 100km from a servo, so why spend more to cater for about 1% of the population when the other 99% arent worried about it?

    as i said in my other post, it comes down to the $$ in the eyes of the manufacturer, and atm, every car manufacturer on earth is being INCREDIBLY cagey about any expenditure

    I loved those Toyota ads. "We race and you win". Every time I saw those ads I thought they should say "We have come last in more categories than any other manufacturer"
