    Comp truck

    I have got the day driver up to spec to get me around the moderate parts of the bush and still be a breeze on the highway and in the city

    But here is my plan and i am open to all opinions, i have been looking on the net and found some rather cheap i mean 10K or less built comp spec trucks which seem to be in decent order, i was contemplating spending my money on getting one of them and using it just in the bush and maybe trying to enter a couple of competitions...does this sound stupid or is it a good idea, and by comps i don't mean starting at Tuff Truck id enter something a little bit low key to start with get a feel for comp, a dream of mine is deffinetly to be in TTC one year!

    buy a v8 county lift it 2 inches and put some decent 33's on it...

    thats about all you need for basic start outs in the low key events. all your going to be up against is toymotas and bitsamissins.

    you'll get a sals so youve got a tough drive line... (but it can be made tougher)

    if you like it rip out the 3.5 put in a worked up 3.9+ auto from a late disco or even up to the 4.4 drop 4.7's into the pumpkins and thats your plant sorted (you can even get that engineered for road use if you up the brakes while your at it) enough to get you into the bottom end of the medium level stuff and if that takes your fancy the skys the limit.....

    you could also do exactly the same thing in a D1 but you dont get quite the same suspension setup (d1 doesnt travel as well as a county) and you dont get the sals to start out with but if your going to up the axle strength you can get aftermarket bits for a disco that will make up the shortfalls.

    I would start with a Rangie as its a good wheelbase, good width and has Rovers lowest CofG. The body construction will also mean that its effective with an internal rollcage. You'll be running 35/36's as a minimum and the Rover drivetrain will be marginal - get used to changing diffs, axles and CV's or change to something stronger. Common is Patrol front and LC80 rear. Also, looks for a truck with a ZF and LT230 gearboxs. Most definately dont run 4.7's, they will break!

    This is will be a good tested starting point that has been proven.

    The biggest question is, do you have someone who can pass pink/bue slips with a wink/wink, nudge/nudge, it wasnt like that when i saw it.........and never ever ever drive it on a public road again. If yes go for it.

    If no, either find someone who does, or be prepared to spend mega dollars on engneering. Comp trucks are either cheap, or legal, not both.

    I'd say go for it, however, there are alot of cars avertised as "comp Trucks" and really they are bodgey bits of CR AP which are only comp spec as they are not legal. Pay 10K plus for a legal comp spec truck. 38s on a stock axled rangie with a guard chop does not make it a comp truck, just a short fused time bomb.

    Normally If you want to enter comps (apart from TT), you need to be in a club, with enough reliable people to form a team.

    You are OK....It's the truth. If You want to push Rovers real hard and be engineered is not easy. I'm speaking from experience in NSW

    Iv been looking around and iv found some zooks which claim to be engineered so therefor legal, and if there were any other dramas i am in the know with someone who will pass things with a *wink wink*...

    Most of the zooks iv found which are engineered and of a high quality are above 10K But still not too rich...

    Would this be a better option id love a landy but I'm trying to get into the comp scene on a budget.

    Just do it then. Its all about going and having fun. The other factor is cost of repairs and the zooks are good for that. There are heaps and heaps and heaps of mods that people are doing to these things and the zookie boys are a little crazier than most..... well, actually a lot crazier! But thats a good thing.

    Its better to be able to afford to play properly than be half assed about it.
