Those who were here in years of yore may recall a fela by the name of bigbugga. He bought a (won't mention the brand in case it upsets Stevo ! ) exactly because the service (such as it was) he received from LR up his way in hicksville W.A. was woeful. The (won;t mention it again) dealer however was much better by all reports.
Good luck BradM and - as Steve is so fond of Arnie quotes - I'll throw one in myself

The 200 is not much of an improvement on the 100. Most Tojo owners where most undewaelmed at what they have seen.
The "new" 70 series is an old model Prado (one we didn't get here) with a wider front track to fit the TDV8 in. They left the rear the same.
So you can imagine how it handles on rutted tracks.
Theres more....the first engine used a lot of oil,and then started to knock badly. It was replaced, toyota wouldnt say what was wrong. Then the gearbox played up & was replaced.Toyota were not happy with the 2nd engine so then replaced it.It seems the engines are in stock as they changed it quickly.
As you can imagine the owner is not real happy, doesnt want the car anymore.
Theres no BS here.......lemons can appear in any brand

The traybacks are damm uncomfortable as well, but i suppose they are only a work ute, built as a workhorse.
The 70 old prado thing was brought in to replace the standard wagon, which dissapeared from the 200 series line up.
But as said it is generations behind a standard 100 wagon, and many generations behind a defender![]()

VladTepes "I hope you are right", I would not complain if there was a great new affordable model Disco with good dealer backup and no curry powder additive, then I will definitely be back.
BradM
I can understand the decision Brad has made - I see my Defender as an "enthusiast's" vehicle.
And whilst I love every bolt in it - with a year's ownership - and my first land Rover ever, I'd say that if I lived in Karratha I would also own a Jap rig along side Grover.
To be honest - my 16 year old Mazda 626 is more reliable than my 1 year old Defender. Not that it has ever "failed to proceed" - but the list of warranty items in it's first year is starting to look like the Manhattan phone book.
The build is bordering on crap - the rest is barely passable, but still I love it!![]()

Your lucky with the Mazda,I had a 626,bought it with 70k on the clock and after the mitsu express ute it was worst car I have ever owned, the cost of parts for both was criminal. Pat
And they're no better than some of the others at carrying parts in Australia. Young bloke recently had to get a replacement drivers side door handle for the RX7. Took them the best part of three months to bring one in from Japan.
Took him a lot less than that to import the whole bloody car.
(The door handles are the same as the Australian released models even though his particular model is a later model Jap import).
Cheers .........

Maybe - but in 16 years my Mazda has needed...
1. Reconditioned electric window controller - $150.00 installed
2. Ignition leads - 2 sets, can't remember price.
3. Headlight bulb - $5.00.
and it costs about $700.00 a year to be serviced by a Mazda dealer. OK - so it's a car and doesn't take the treatment the Defender does, but
- compare that to my 1 year old LR which has so far required...
1. New Headlight
2. New TC/ABS sensors - both, front axle.
3. New Brake master cylinder reservoir
4. New intercooler hose
5. New rear disc brake covers
6. New radio/CD player
7. New side mirror
8. New rear sliding window
9. New passenger window winder
10. Panel work - slit in middle of roof where it meets the windscreen
11. Panel work - hole in underside driver's seat box.
12. Panel work - Drivers side front gutter - no paint
13. Panel work - Rear seats not sitting on seat stops
14. Panel work - modify bonnet to clear brake master cylinder reservoir
15. Panel work - numerous cracks in paintwork.
I personally had the use of a total of 6 Nissan Patrols over the period of my last job- from new, sold at 40,000km by my employer and nothing went wrong with any of them and they were driven to all parts of Australia loaded to the gunnels. Don't get me wrong - I love my Defender - but I feel these vehicles are for enthusiasts who are prepared to accept them for what they are.
