Engine History
To cut a long story short, I have purchased a D2, which some months ago, had the engine replaced due to the old 'oil pump bolt' trick.
A known LR place replaced the engine with a second hand one (no complaint, just a plug). Although trouble free thus far, is there any way short of asking the installer, (I have the invoice) where it came from, KM, history etc?
I am keen to know obviously if the second donk has done sgnificantly less or more KM than the car. Is it generally acceptable to ask the installer - remember it was not installed for me, but the previous owner.
Thanks in advance.

you should go to them with the car and paperwork to show provenance and also imply that you only wish to know that information, and also get permission from the previous owner.
either way, most likely you won't get what you want as the service place will have purchased an engine from a wrecker or elswhere, so the will have provenance but mileage may not be forthcoming.
so you will have to treat your engine as if it needs a major service and do that.
i have the same issue with a car we just bought which has service history, and i am just going to do the biggest service in the book, to give me a known starting point.
it is cheaper to start fresh than trust records, and have a major failure down the track
