The thing about us lot is this - we are LR nutters. We are into the green oval. We wave to other LR drivers.

But most people who drive LR - especially Discos - are just not into the LR thing - they just drive a vehicle that happens to be a LR. So waving to them leaves them dumbfounded.

Like Pedro said - give waves out - don't expect them back. When you do, it's a bonus.

I regularly wave when I'm up country but I don't bother when I'm back in Melbourne. Most Melbourne LR drivers just seem to be busy concentrating on the cut and thrust of city traffic.

I drove through from Dubbo to Broken hill a year or so back. I was surprised to get a wave from nearly everybody on that road. I gues it may have been because you mightn't see a car in the oposite direction for 1/2 hour or more.

I couple of years back we bought a new VW Jetta turbo diesel. There weren't many on the road at the time. we found ourselves coasting along the freeway and drew up along side another Jetta in exactly the same paint, wheels etc. I thought cool, snap! and gave the other driver a wave. he just looked at like "What are you waving at me for you idiot?" I don't think VW drivers wave at each other.

    Cheers

    X2 long Stroker ....

I commute around Melbourne and barely get a wave from other Landy drivers ... Disco and RR especially.

But the other day I went on a camping trip up past Yea and I waved at all Land Rover vehicles and got a healthy return and guess what, most returns from Disco owners ...... mind you, the waves came predominantly from vehicle that appeared to be being used for what they were designed for .... geting out in the bush ......

We were driving our Disco along Mulgoa Road, Penrith yesterday afternoon and waved at a white Defender travelling in the opposite direction. Didn't see if he waved back as the traffic was pretty heavy. It's sometimes hard to see drivers as a lot of cars now have tinted windscreens, and in yesterday's hot weather we had the windows shut and the A/C on. If the window is open, we give a big wave out the window

The biggest shock i got was when,3 or 4 months back,as i was driving along the great western highway at medlow bath,i saw about 15 or so landies of all shapes and sizes (done up in orange with stickers etc, maybe from south africa or somewhere) parked outside the "hydro majestic" hotel with their owners standing around chatting, i think they were doing a tour or rally or something, anyhow, seeing all the landies,i got all excited and hung out the window tooting and waving, and was met by 20 or so vacant looks...i thought for sure id at least get a smile...from someone!! il keep waving as long as i see landies on the road, its just nice occasionally to be waved back at!!! p.s. how freakin hot is it today!!

I invented. Well more "observed" the different combination of Landrover<->Landrover waves. Using, what became known as "Pommie's Law" - one can predict if you will get a wave, by a combination of the Landy you are driving, and the Landy they are driving.
Here is Pommie's Law, in detail, from a previous thread on the subject:
