Data doesn't necessarily mean Fax/Modem use, it is used a lot on larger rural properties for automatic monitoring of stock water levels, turning on/off pumps, gates, etc and other automatic devices that send 4 or 5 digit codes. I have a Pilot mate who says a lot of remote airfields also use it for automated landing. 10min out, he sends a 4 digit Selcall code and the Genny powers up, landing lights on the strip come on and floodlights illuminate 2 windsocks. Awesome stuff 1st time you see it!

Yeah well these guys using data on the public station s can go suck eggs, I use 23 pretty much every where and I dont care who doesnt like it.

On the golf course we pay $80....yes $80 per year for 2 private channels, 1 for data to turn the sprinkler heads on and off and the other for coms between the blokes.

I think these farmers or industry that are using the systems should do the same, they can sell the frequencies hundreds of times due to the short range but everyone wants something for free.

I hear a cell call everynow and then but I DONT CARE, nice quiet channel with bugger all people on it anywhere

In convoy I use what ever the go is. When travelling I flick between CH18 and the trucks.

I always use what the club decides when in convoy and that depends on what the traffic is like on our normal channel.
On the highway away from the metro area I use the handheld set on Ch40 to talk to trucks when I see them coming and they're going to overtake.
I never listen to Ch 18 as I can't stand the sound of all those false teeth chattering!

Unless using it for a specific conversation/event, I just leave mine on a group scan (11, and 41-49).

Our club uses 33 as a convoy channel - seems OK most of the time but a few of us Brisbane members got told off for using it on the way home (around Peak Crossing) as it is a duplex channel. We switched channels.

I prefer to use Ch 10 - it is a commonly used channel by 4 wheel drives, especially in Nat Parks.

I also tune into 40 to find out where the "flash for cashers" are located - don't know why though, I never speed.

Me too! Its always on 10 whenever I'm in the Disco, and even have a "UHF Ch.10" sticker on the back window so anyone can give me a shout.

Unless of course I'm on a AULRO or LROC run and the leader decides to use another channel.

So if anyone around the Perth area spots me, give us a call...
