Hi Dirty, what sort of budget do you have for a house as this will pretty well govern where you end up.

We always thought that if you had to cross the highway to go to the beach you were not living on the Gold Coast.

I could go 1mill but I have seen some nice houses around 750-800k mark..unfortunately I have to keep about 20-30mins away from the nearest ER type hospital for the SWMBO, if she gets bored she might wanna come home so best keep her happy and busy.

I do prefer up the SC way but the opportunity only exists for replacing the guy who resigned from the GC region.

Dirty, for that sort of money you can pretty well pick just about anywhere on the coast that suits your fancy.

Any idea when you might be coming up here.

That is why the back blocks and the hinterland were developed. Ghettos to keep the Victorians out of sight.

You will never convince me or any other Queenslander who knew the coast before it was ruined by sand mining and uncontrolled corrupt development that anywhere west of, say, Florida Gardens is "Gold Coast". Some would say that Florida Gardens and the other canal estates along the flood plain are hinterland.

The name, "Gold Coast", by the way, has nothing to do with golden beaches or sunshine, but was a name given by a "Courier Mail" journalist in a cynical news piece about the inflated higher prices charged by traders and landlords there during holiday seasons. You were charged lots of gold for the privilege of holidaying there. The name has stuck to the extent of the local govt. district name being changed from Town of South Coast to Gold Coast City.

You could get some nice homes on Pacific Harbour on Bribie for 500/1M on Canal swimming pool, multi garages 20mins(24Klm) Caboolture Hospt. good ambulance service, large Woolworths/Target shopping centre, cafes, food shops, fast food shops, surf on one side, calm passage on other, banks, plenty of doctors, population age ranges from school age to 104year olds,Aprox 20k, large number of 45-65 year olds, golf club, bowls clubs hotels, RSL, boating, fishing, full access to morteon bay,45/55mins to Brisbane 35mins to Sunshine Coast, 25 mins to Glasshouse Mtns

Why not have a look on the way back from Glasshouse mtns on Sunday (turn left at Bribie exit from M1 southbound) and there are aquite a few Landrover (all Types) on the Island also there is vehicle access to beach/FWD tracks (permit required) and plenty of homes for sale , as older folk move into nursing homes.

Funny you should say that, when I bought up here 8 years ago, I bought a place in the hinterland and at the time, I reckon it was cheap but was a bit suss.

A relo of mine was a master builder on the Gold Coast for many years and is retired here now, so I asked him why my property and others in my area were so cheap.

The answer was that if one had to travel more than 5 minutes to get to a shopping centre then Gold Coasters wouldn’t buy it.

Therefore it was only of interest to the mexicans, who were use to driving 30, 40 and 50 minutes to get anywhere.

So as it took 10 minutes to get to Robina, it was just way to far to travel, hence the cheaper prices out here in the valley.

Not so today with all the mexicans that have moved up here.
