how much light do you need Jock??
not sure on tassie regos for lights, I know some states are illegal, but I have seen others with them on tassie vehicles, so the cops obviously aren't too worried.
Gday
Im planning once I, either get the new roof rack made up of the old one straightened out, to run some lights on the rack.
Looking at having 4 up there.
These ones on the outside:
These ones on the inside:
And then most likely a set of these for on the bullbar:
Just wondering if some one could tell me what the law is with lights? With regards to wattage, height above roof, size etc
Thanks
BTW - I already have the Narvas and the Roo Lites so Ill only be getting the 240 Blitzs

Check with your local transport dept. It varies from state to state.
Up here there's no restriction height but you can only have 2 extra pairs of white, symmetrically mounted driving lights. must be wired to high beam only and have a separate switch. cannot be mounted wider than the low beam lights.

Oops Phoenix beat me to it.
In NSW roof lights are illegal, they can be ornamental however, which contadicts the other law on driving lights or any other light, that if lights are fitted they must work
Also there are a maximun allowed, 6 in NSW that includes your headlights and they must be in pairs (ie) one spot one spreed with the spot on the drivers side

I have always heard that roof lights were illegal BUT on the previos model Jeep Cherokee you could get them as a factory option built into the factory roof rack - so they must be legal in some form.

I asked Qld. Transport about roof mounted lights and gave up after getting four different interpretations from four different officers.
The regulations for normally mounted ones are specific. Must be symmetrically mounted, the centre of the light must be no higher than the top of the headlight, must not protrude above the top of any bullbar, must not interfere with the drivers vision which means they must not be seen from the driving position, must be switched through the main beam circuit, must not be used within 200 metres of any other vehicle or in any way that annoys the driver of any other vehicle or interferes with the safe operation of any other vehicle.

In Qld they used to have a restriction on the height above the highest fixture on the vehicle, so in front of roof racks is legal but not a certain height above them.
