    Well..the mail got through!!!

After all the rain up north and the present closure of the Barkly Highway west of Mt.Isa, we expected the 4 large boxes we posted up to our family in Gapuwiyak would take forever to arrive.

They were posted here in Sydney on December 29th (a Monday) and arrived in Gapuwiyak yesterday - just over 2 weeks. Considering the public holidays around New Year AND the fact that after the boxes went by road to Darwin, they have to be barged in to Gapuwiyak (barge comes in once a week), I think Australia Post and Perkins Shipping deserve a big pat on the back!

    Thanks,
    Mrs B.

that's quick for any parcels to up here. 3 weeks is usually the norm and I've had as bad as 8 weeks.

Please, please, please don't say that about Perkins Shipping. They are getting worse and worse and charging more and more. I recently tried to get transit insurance for some freight and once it was mentioned that it was being shipped by Perkins the cost increased.

Not happy with Aussie Post. My wife has recently started a new venture and landed a decent order up central QLD area. Around 1300km away. I was getting all fired up to go deliver it all for her with the Defender that still has not done a real long trip.
She enquired at the Post Office and consequently it has mostly already been sent for way cheaper than I would have been. Quicker to.
    Cheers

Sorry about your issue with them, but we should give credit when it's due

Yes, I suppose you are correct. It is good to hear they can get it right sometimes. Gapuwiyak has the smaller coastal barge doesn't it? I suspect the operation to them is probably a lot better (being smaller) than the combination of Gove and Darwin.

I certainly can't fault Australia post - I can't work out their delivery timetable - but it does get here and the Post Office in town are always very helpful.

Yes, it is the smaller barge Derek. Comes in at the Buckingham River landing about 20ks from town. I think it goes to Elcho Island as well. Sharon was saying yesterday was the first time it had come in for almost 2 weeks, so I guess the weather/tides may have something to do with that.

Anyway, she and Alfred were very happy to receive the goodies they had bought while down here over Xmas...and I guess everyone will be pleased fresh produce is now on the shelves at the Gapuwiyak store.

    Cheers
