Bad spelling on forums

Bad spelling happens a lot on the internet but I must say this is one of the worst forums I've come across for poor spelling. (4wd Action is worse)

Do the offenders realise they're doing it? Or do they simply not care?

One I see a bit is "thort". I also see "tire", "mite". Actually, do a search for "mite", it's used a lot here!

Anyway, one thing that ****es me off about poor spelling, apart from it (in my mind) making the offender appear to be an illiterate monkey, when you're using the forum search function to find something and the poster has misspelt it, you'll never find it.

Firefox has a spellcheck built in. I'm sure I.E. does too. Why don't people use them?

mate mite is not a miss spelled word....so how is a spell checker going to pick it up?

It's misspelt if you mean "might"

I often use the wrong spelling but not on purpose. Sometimes I realise but I figure if the person knows what I mean then it isn't going to hurt them. I try not to go sms speak at least so I figure that is good enough. My grammar is awful though and I wish it was better but it ain't!

I can't understand why people get so up tight about it! If you know you spell well, well good for you why on earth should you get upset if someone else doesn't. It is just beyond me

It's misspelt if you mean "might"

doesn't matter my point is if you don't have grammar skills a spell checker is not going to help you!! the word the person has used is not misspelt only used in the wrong context

This is also teh worst for spelling ranters.

Some are just not as anal about it as others. Thinking that spelling reflects intelligence also reflects a lack of intelligence.

Also, just think.... next time you search "anal" this thread will pop up.

Actually, admittedly I spell badly on forums, but its more a lack of proof reading and typing quickly - actually I often leave out entire words as I think ahead of what I type. Someone on another forum recently had an explosion because people were writing "teh" instead of "the". In the grand scheme of things in my life.... its a problem that rates quite low - if it is a big issue in anybodies life, then lifes good.

Look at the big picture. Are people lazy, stupid or they just don't care?
