    12v Plugs

Whilst in Australia I bought a 12 volt plug and socket which was about 2/3 of the diameter of the standard cigerette lighter socket.

The plug has a circular negative contact which grips the socket much more firmly then the two side prongs on the standard 12v plug.

Can anyone tell me what they are called or give me a link to a website which shows them?

    Regards

    Brendan

Thanks DM, it was the one on the right which by looking at photo properties have found a link to Marine connect.

I found these Merit 12 v plugs gripped the sockets much beeter then the standard 12 v plugs.

Also found out that Anderson do a 30 amp connector from the marineconnector website. Always thought previously that the smallest Anderson connector was 50 amps

    Thanks again

    Regards

    Brendan,

You should have no problem at all in locating those smaller plugs in the UK as they are actually of european origin. BMW motorcycles have used them for years as their accessory sockets. I believe Hella make them.

    Hella Catalogue 2001 / 2002

often referred to as Hella plugs and sockets, used on higher current draw items due to the better connection providing less loss.

No problem, thought a picture might ID it quicker.

Like others said, the plug is a standard Hella unit.

Nooooooo!!!!!!!! I don't care how good you've found them, these aren't the thing to be using over rough terrain because one day they will fail. The more positive and secure the connection the less chance of movement, short, etc. That's why a heavier spring loaded connection or better still a screw together one is preferable.

    Interesting.

I'm still waiting for a failure after 22 years of using them.
