    Angry Battery help

    G'day

I'm having a wee problem with my Disco. I've only bought in 5 weeks ago and on christmas eve the battery went flat. Brought it down to Battery World and was told it was at the end of its life. So I bought a new one, $270 and now 3 weeks later this one has gone flat. Am on my way back to Battery World to bring back the new one but have a sneaky feeling something to do with the car is draining the battery. No idea but ****ed off.

Hi Stoner and welcome to the site.

First off, how often do you drive the disco and when you do drive it, how long do you drive for.

New batteries are normally not fully charged and need to get a bit of driving time to get them fully charged.

    Hi
The day after I put the new battery in we set off on an 8 hour drive for a 10 day holiday and it has been going good until this morning. My wife drove it home from work yesterday at about 4pm and then was heading off this morning and it was flat.

It should be fully charged then.

Have your tried disconnecting the battery and leaving it overnight, then reconnecting to see if the battery has held it’s charge or self discharged?

This will tell you if it is the battery or something in the disco causing the drain.

    Hi Stoner,
Discovery 1 or Discovery 2/3, this will also determine whether u need a Lead Acid (D1)or a Lead Calcium (D2/3)type Battery. Two completey different batteries & require different charging techniques.
    Cheers

Just back from Battery World and found out that the battery is leaking 4-5 amps while the ignition is off so now gotta find out where, process of elimination. Nothing wrong with the battery by the way. Oh and it's a Discovery 2 TD5.
