    Ravensthorpe Nickel To Close?

    Before anyone asks, I do not know yet. Rumours rife the last couple of days that BHPBilliton are expected to announce the closure of BHP Billitons Ravensthorpe Nickel Mine. Nothing has been confirmed or denied yet. But as typical we as workers there will be the last to know. There is some sort of announcement expected Wednesday 21st Jan.

    Something is happening as you guys take our acid from the smelter but have cut right back as it is now worth nothing we cannot give it away.I doubt it will close,they will run reduced production. Pat

    i have been slack and have not return a call from a friend that is working at this mine....onlt started there a few months ago too

    Pat,
    Was only short term taking acid from KNS when our acid plant was shut down for mods. Normally we make our own acid from sulphur.
    When I was there we used to send it to Murrin, Cawse and Bulong.
    Just have to wait and see, but we have put up with these rumours for some time now. Hopefully it is just another rumour and media sensationalising.

    Still have not met your friend. Have seen her name at her cubicle, but have not crossed paths yet due to shift rosters, leave and public holidays etc. Have not forgotten to say hi.

    I would seriously doubt it if the nickel price stays where it is.

    Great place, Gladstone. Close to the Barrier Reef and the Swains. Tannum Sands, Agnes Water, 1770, estuary, reef, and beach fishing, plenty of 4WD country all around, mud crabs in plague numbers and beaches all the way north. It is not cold, wet, and windy in winter either.
