These have been discused in the past and the general thought was they dont work very well on a TD5.
Those Coleman LPG systems are good and reasonably compact.

I use one on a D1 V8 and would not go without one ! and I'm about to transfer it to a 300TDI D1 ! I'll see how it goes there ?
I can't see any reason it would not work on a TD5 ?? Has anyone got a reason ? The duct heater temperature / coolant temp on a TD5 seems to be much the same as anything else ?? I Have fitted them on heaps of vehicles without a problem, did fit one once on a TD5 and the customer never complained ??
The normal fitment would be the Exit pipe from the heater core on the firewall and wind your heater dial right around to hot !
Would be interested to know the feedback ? I fitted one to a D22 Navara once and we could not keep it cool enough, burn your skin off !

Once you see the schematics for a TD5 cooling system you will see why.Not clever enough to lift the pic from the RAVE CD,perhaps others could.
It may give insite into where in the system it might work at its best.

I had a twine HWS in my 03 TD5 and it worked very well.I had to raise up the air filter about 30mm and mounted it underneath it. Cut into the heater pipe that runs under the air filter.Quote:

Still in two minds about what to do. Like the idea of the self contained Glind/Twine setup, but don't want to cut into the system if they don't work that well on the TD5. I already have the pump and shower head setup so only need to buy the heat exchanger.
Anyone else out there who has installed one on a TD5? I would like to hear if it was a success or if it did not produce enough heat.

12v in the bucket for us too, just set up the shower tent next to the car(the missus is a bit shy if others are around), plug it into the ciggie lighter socket and 10 litres provides a great warm shower:D
I had the Glind fitted to a V8 County and it worked a treat. Fitting it to a TDi Disco was not as successful (read - hot water). I thought this was just the difference between a V8 and diesel.:(
Recently the shower was fitted to my TD5 Defender. I have to agree somewhat with Redbak regarding the heating abilities.
However, in saying that, I have no complaints - it is still a warm shower and most importantly, it is convenient.:)
The convenience is due to the installation. I simply need to place a bucket next to the Water Source pick-up hose, snap-lock the shower-rose hose, flick the switch - and enjoy a shower.:D
Have a look at the installation. At this point I have to add, I would like to say I installed it.:( I didn't.

The water-source (filter etc) is mounted on the inside of the bullbar (The green hose is there just to protect the connecting piece on the filter) and the switch is fitted to the bull-bar upright. There is an additional over-riding switch in the vehicle.

The good bit. This shows (red handle) one of the two by-pass taps to the Glind Unit.
I was apprehensive regarding dicking around with the TD5's cooling system and simply did not trust the integrity of the Glind Heat Exchanger. After discussions with Ivan two by-pass taps were installed.

The first by-pass and the Glind Heat Exchanger - mounted to the firewall.
Simple matter to raise the bonnet and flick the two levers - the hot radiator liquid then does it's job in passing through the heat exchanging unit. Before commencing my journey the taps are turned off and everything is back to standard.
The pump is mounted on the guard in behind the right headlight.
As I said previously, convenient and takes no room. ;)
