A bit OT really but a follow up on the particular vehicle I was talking about with the oil pressure problem. Got the sump off, oil pump bolt was tight (BUT NO LOCTITE!!??)
The oil pressure relief valve was my next stop, went to remove the plug and it was under considerable spring pressure all the way to the end of the thread...on inspection there appeared to be something fouling the plunger. I went to get a set of thin nosed pliers to remove the plunger and when I got back it was gone!:o The plunger then almost fell out and I then checked the bore etc and found it to be fine. When refitting the plunger and spring about half the spring pressure was evident, so whatever was in there was holding the plunger down off its seat a fair distance. After fitting plunger etc back in Itook a good look around and came up with a small piece of ally burr from manufacturing / casting process lying on the floor and it even had little marks where it was jammed in one of the holes of the plunger. It came out of the cast ally pump inlet and distribution cradle under the crank main caps, entered the pump and eventually made its way to the relief valve chamber.
The sump showed no evidence of bearing material etc and the owner is now off to buy a lottery ticket...
Now has 60psi cold and 30psi hot idle:)
