Exclamation URGENT help required in Melbourne

    OK, here goes...

My wife is stranded in BONBEACH Melbourne with a car that she has over-filled with oil. I am in Brisbane and she has just had the RACV out to tell her this (we already knew anyway) but they couldn't actually DO anything as it is not in their job description.

There is no-one else we know in Melbourne who can help her, the local garages are all closed for service and all the nearby hire car places are also closed so I can't even fix her up with a temp car until Monday.

Is there anyone nearby with tools who can spare an hour or so to help her? It should be simply a case of draining the oil and then putting some fresh stuff in.

She flew down last week to help a friend and business colleague who got taken to hospital in an emergency. She now finds herself driving the friend's dodgy Hyundai Excel which has many, many issues. Knowing that the car burns a lot of oil, she dutifully put a bunch in this morning. Unfortunately she could not read the dipstick and has totally overfilled it - smoke galore - but the car still runs OK.

Please PM me if you can help - sooner rather than later would be good as she still has a stack of work to do and I would like her back in Brisbane before too much longer.

After a couple of dozen phone calls I managed to fluke a booking for a mobile mechanic who just happened to be passing through that area. I'll know in an hour whether the problem has been sorted.

    Update

Well thanks must go to "953" who PM'd me and was on standby until the mechanic showed up. Unfortunately the car is stuffed and the oil over-fill was just the straw that broke the camel's back. It's either time for a new engine or a new car but the owner is not at all surprised. She now tells us she was planning to do one or the other of these things 12 months ago but the car just kept on going.

Still, you've got to love this forum. It's comforting to know that just about anywhere you may get stranded there is someone nearby willing to hep out.

It's sorted now (sort of), thanks Disco Sim.

Good thing I wasn't there or this might have happened...
