p.s. it's pretty sad that kids are being blinded at what they percieve as being patriotic, in the sunday times yesterday 'Australia day cronulla beach kids draped in australian flags( which i consider disrespectful of the flag it aint a bloody shirt) harrassing asian shopkeepers ....they have probably lived here longer than the kids have been alive young *****s !!!!
That is not good, i also noted that there must be a lot of ex skinhead poms living in nsw when the riots kicked off a while back i was sickened that these muppets who were 'go home' whites were mainly pom ex-pats the cheek of it !

I believe the vast majority of "European" Australians are not racist and I assume that Australians from other ethnic backgrounds are not racist at all. Having said that, we do have in this fantastic country of ours, a small but loud minority who are idiots and who get the press and so make the issue seem bigger than what it is.

I live in the Sunnybank/8 Mile Plains area in Brisbane which is chock full of Asians. We have a Mosque not far away so there's a large population of Mid-Eastern immigrants here as well. The only issue we have here are with kids out too late at night causing dramas, hoons and the odd ethnic-based gang (again kids).

I think people (the politically correct and the press) confuse racism with our ignorance of (and hence being uncomfortable with) other's ethnic customs and religious beliefs.

    Australia racist?

Look at the crap there was recently about Harry calling an Army mate a Paki some 3 years ago, and all the indignant cries of royal racism etc.
Then check out the website Paki - Its all About being Pakistani ..... nearly everything is headed Paki this or Paki that and that's them openly using the same word to describe themselves which he used!
Complete load of hypocrisy from a load of self opionated tossers.

Aborigines are very racist with each other based on shades of skin colour, and their perceptions of each other as noble warrior/hunter, bush ni**er, creamy, yella fella, malteser, sophisticated city dweller, or country bumpkin. And so on.

In my youth there was racist discrimination particularly in country towns based on ethnic origin and religion. The orange and the green was certainly in existence. To my grandparents and parents generations, the bottom of the social heap was occupied by Irish Catholics, Chinese, and aborigines. If this is still about it is hardly noticeable except towards the aborigines.

One of the best things we ever did was move to Kalgoorlie.I cannot stand racist, bigots and fools.I work every day with people from all over the world,Kal is full of them,my children go to school with kids from all over the world,my son has a friend from africa,my daughter has two friends from there and I very proud of that.I will never treat people as if they are bellow me and my children won't either, the halfwit ''white Australia'' mob that drap themselves in the flag don't reprisent me and I drove myself to hospital last night at two am as my knee is shot and the lady at the desk was a kiwi, the doctor was a muslim from Pakistan and the trainee who bandaged me up was chinese,I treated all with respect and got nothing but respect back. The biggest problem is it only takes one bad apple and to our detriment we have more than one ignorant, low educated, redneck hillbilly in this country. How the times and terminology change too. When I was at school the Aborigines were called Abos, the term was not used in a derogitory way. Smith was Smithy, Zdweski was wheelbarrow, Simpson was Simmo. It's just Aussie slang.

    Guess I am a Racist ?

Unfortunately a couple of issues currently in legal limbo that may or may not involve me:

So hypothetically: I am white (for what it matters), I have to deal with all manner of people and their issues in my workplace. I have several but one in particular indigenous "customer" who refuses (more often incapable) to act in a socially acceptable manner. I am the one who is singled out by the media and such agencies as the A*L*R*M* as the racist/problem.

Now let me see: Have I dealt with this person differently to the manner in which I would treat a "Anglo" person? Yes dam right I have, I have given him more warnings and tolerance than I ever would a "Anglo" offender (For fear of being labelled a "Racist"). I have helped him from his own misfortune on many occasions and protected both he and others in his company from their own actions. My reward, a media article indicating that I am the problem!

I sincerely hope that eventually one day I end up in court defending myself:
Perhaps I will call as my referees:
My Family Who are legally recognised at "Indigenous"
The many "Indigenous youth" I have been working with over the years as a volunteer!

Yes racism is rife in Australia, clearly against White Anglo people, they don't have nearly anywhere near the same amount of rights as others in the community.

Guess I am a Racist LOL

Old history it goes back to what some times is referred to as the third crusade, or the elimination of the cathitor (not sure of spelling) Christians and there states.
Where we in Australia see religion and ethnicity as separate, the rest of the world do not think like that. Ones religion denote ones race. And in many cases the physical appearance is different as well.
Example we may see being a Jew as being Jewish, the vast majority of the rest of the world sees them ( as they see themselves) as being apart of the Jewish Race.
So when referring to religious lines in Asia and most of Europe we are in fact referring to different races
