Govt Job!
One thing is for certain, the public sector unions will not allow public service growth to stagnate or go backwards. That aside, all of these publicly funded infrastructure projects will need staff.
Scour the gazette!

dont worry it will come back.. i said it would ages ago..
UK was great for manufacture, eastern europe became cheap so they went there to save costs.. eastern europe got more expensive, so they went to the far east.. now china is going to get more expensive, so it all evens out which means local manufacture becomes relavent again!
In case of point.. it is now cheaper to get sheet metal made in Walsall, birmingham than in warsaw poland..
Thanks
Steve
Has hit me to. Got the call 2 weeks before Xmas just after going off shift "don't bother coming back no more work". The scary thing is how quickly it hit, 2 months earlier we had a years worth of work backlog then nothing. Just goes to show how dependant oz is on the mining industry.
Am taking the opportunity to change careers so have moved to the beach (might as well be a broke bum at the beach than a broke one out in the sticks) and are hoping to get a go as a Ranger with DEC. Pay might not be flash but govt job security and get payed to go 4x4 and camping makes up for it.:D
Sorry to hear that Steve.
As Craig says its really going to hit hard, lots of smaller companies and their workers will suffer.
All you can hope Steve is you find something, even if its different just to keep the wolves from the door till the worlds mess is sorted.
Last few jobs we have advertised we havent got any applicants. We have had a heap of resumes sent in the last few weeks asking for work, and we have no positions advertised or available at the moment.
Andrew
Hope all goes well 5teve - I am sure with such qualification you will find another postion.Good Luck.
My job has been downsized to 4 days a week, which is great, except for the lack of money :( A bloke in the office's son got the sack last week (he's a creative designer or some such thing). Their excuse ... he's too talented and wasted working where he is. Go figu:(re!
Yip, things are definitely going downhill pretty quickly! :(
Not good news. Hope all goes well.
Words of advice given to clients by a CES Senior Case Manager:- If you are over 45 take anything you get offered even if you think it menial or beneath you. It may well be the only offer you will get.
Sorry to hear that Steve.
Maybe I had better rethink my retirement which starts tomorrow week!
My brother and 33 others got laid off 2 weeks before Xmas from a mid sized IT organisation. Cuts were decreed from Sydney (we are in Adelaide).
Lousy timing. Can't look for work over Xmas/NY, even in mid-Jan people are still on holidays.
He has luckily got something else, but not at his previous salary, and not in an "interesting" field, but it's a job and he has 3 kids + mortgage to think about....
