Is it safe to run low psi on cheap tyres????

    g'day all,

well most of you know i just joined the disco era lol and the shoes that Eco is wearing are EL Cheapo's. Now i'm pretty much low in the funds department and waiting to get some cash in my skyrocket. i was hoping to take Eco out on her first 4x4 run ( nothing major) but was worried about her tyres, They are Monoform / Motorway steel belted radials 245/70R16 . now is it safe to drop at a low PSI, say around 20 to 25 psi??????

as always your knowledge is greatly appreciated

    cheers simon.

    Hi mate,

I couldn't see why it would be a problem, but I definately wouldn't go any lower, and would be pumping them back up immediately once back on the Black Stuff.

P.S. What have you done with the P38?

The price of the tyre is not the issue, I would be checking the condition of the tyre first, if the tread is intact and the side walls are not gouged or cracked, there should not be a problem.

If they look ok, I would travel with care without knowing too much about the tyres on the vehicle simply because they may not take the punnishment of some of the better brands.

here are a couple of links that might be interesting
