Going great guns, and we'll be able to justify some more centralised funds for us to spend on our Homebush headquarters?

"Going" is fireyspeak for, roughly, "its burning well and advancing wherever it wants to and nothing we have done is slowing it down", as opposed to "contained" ("we think we have a firebreak round it") or "under control" ("we are pretty sure it will stay inside the firebreak") or "out" ("we think all the active fires have died down, but we'll have to keep an eye on it for a few days or weeks depending on the weather")

    Hope that helps

    Going
Indicates any fire that is spreading on one or more flanks. Effective control strategies are not in place for the entire perimeter.

    Being Controlled
Effective strategies are in operation or planned for the entire perimeter.

    Contained
The whole of the fire perimeter is behind identifiable control lines. Active fire fighting and/or mop up are proceeding. Active fire may be located inside the perimeter.

    Patrol
The fire is at a stage where fire fighting resources are only required for patrol purposes and major re-ignition is unlikely.

    Out
The fire is at a stage that allows its removal from the list of current fires.

At least these are the definitions in NSW.

Pretty much what I said, although I skipped patrol for simplicity.

But I think my descriptions were more colourful!

I thought they were more realistic.
