Thread: how to word a letter

Thanks all some good advice there.

I'm not sure about how the kiddo factor thing would work. It worked on my first Landy as I was 14/15 at the time, I think I'm a little past that now, but not past it enough to have kids of my own.

I've left half a dozen or so notes under windscreens, only received one call back.

So with all that experience, what did you exactly write?

A door knock is easier, as they can see your face, answering a letter, or making the first call can be daunting for people as it's the unknown that brings most anxiety.

I've left a note once, but have gone and asked a few times.

On one I wrote something along the lines of, 'your Defender is looking lonely, if it's ever looking for a new home I'm looking to buy', and my phone number.

A couple of times I've mentioned AULRO, just in case they're online.

Mostly it was, 'Admired your Defender when I was passing by. In the unlikely event that you ever want to sell it, I'd be interested in buying it.'

Not quite there, but brevity seemed more important than grammar.

Now I'll go wash my mouth out.

When I was 16 I saw an old Defender swb sitting on someone's front lawn, haven't seen it ever move, I persuaded my dad to buy it for me if the owner would sell it, and for a good price.

I went up to the door, very nervous and scared that he wouldn't want to sell it, then a lady answers the door and I ask if the owner of the Land Rover is home, owner comes to the door and I ask him if he was interested in selling the old thing. He said he wants to fix it up but he would part with it for 3k. Damn too much .

I would advise you to try the direct approach, but first make sure that you have the model of it correct, I.E. Series 1, 2/2a,3, as if somebody called my 2a a Defender, I would know immediatly that they didn't know much about Landrovers, and my answer would reflect that, NO

If not, give it about a month or so, then leave a note on the windscreen
