I remember looking thru Fowles Auctions after Ash Wednesday- no Landies but plenty of Hiluxes & Cruisers. Most sold for $500-$700. You could poke your finger thru most panels & one I recall that got $700 had the alloy valve cover melted so that you could see the shape of the valve springs & camshaft. I reckon rebirthing was all the go then.
I also work in the LPG industry & Rheem had a graveyard of 45kg cyls, not many had exploded tho, but it was common to see the whole brass valve as a molten blob - so intense was the heat.
And its going to repeat itself.
fresh battery and it would probably start![]()
This is how hot the fire got, melted the alloy out of this car.Very sad day.
Beat me to it Mick...![]()

yesterday I saw a SWB ute S2 (I think) and a defender(I think) on the turnoff to Kinglake west, both burnt out and the body panels melted.
Very hot.
