I think that is the key. Sounds like it's from the USA.
Ahh. here we are: snopes.com: Overpaying Traffic Tickets
This was emailed to me today by a Friend that I served in the army with. He left the army and joined the Qld police force before moving on to this job. I have always respected & trusted his judgment over the years.
Worth a try…
Just thought I would share this with you, as you know I work in the speeding fine department in Brisbane's Magistrate's Court and in the course of my investigation into 'fines, their payment methods and how points are automatically added against drivers licenses' we discovered something very interesting 'If You Get a Speeding Fine.' This has been tried and it works.
I have tried to send this to everyone I know. I know for a fact that it works so if you ever get in this situation, you have an out. We discovered that this procedure works nationwide. Read it and try it, you have nothing to lose but the points on your license.
This is how it works:
If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the case may be, and you are going to get points on your license, then there is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get any points. When you get your fine, send in the cheque to pay for it and if the fine is say, $140, then make the cheque out for $141 or some small amount over the fine. The system will then
have to send you back a cheque for the difference, but here is the trick!
**DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHEQUE!!!** Throw it away!! Points are not assessed to your licence until all financial transactions are complete. If you do not cash the cheque then the transactions are NOT complete.
However, the system has got its money and is happy and will not bother you any more. This information came to our attention from a very reliable computer company that sets up the standard database used by each county's computing system.
Good luck and share this with all your friends and other family members as well!!!
As an old soldier would, say no names no pack drill

This urban myth has been doing the rounds for years. We used to time the payments of fines as the points were deducted upon finalisation, nowadays regardless of payment times 12 points gone in 3 years licence suspended. Sorry it does not work; easiest way to avoid losing points is not to get caught, listen to ch 40![]()
This ones done the rounds a few times Hodge.![]()

I saw a very similar email this several years ago in VIC. It had a RACV guys name and contact details shown. I work in IT and have done for 30 years so I very much doubted it's credibility. Anyway I called the number listed and it was an RACV employee who was totally p**sed off about the email still circulating on the net. He relayed that if it ever worked it had certainly been fixed by then.
He also mentioned he had his a*se kicked from christendom to breakfast time by his bosses at the RACV and he was very lucky to keep his job.
True story, happy for others to not believe me if they wish.
Like when I finished with Vodafone.
Wife payed out the last of their bill, but over paid it by $20, her mistake.
Got a bill from said company.
You are now $17.80 in credit (on a closed account)
$2.00 paper bill fee .20 GST.
NOT HAPPY JAN
I rang them, told them account closed, refund.![]()
