    County Conversions

    Hi All,

I am currently in Saudi Arabia, and have an 84 110 county as my daily run about. She is fitted with airconditioning, but has no demister or heater.

I know where there are several others, one an 89 model with the relevant bits, and another 84.

Due to there being limited activities to do here after hours, and due to the purchase price of the vehicles - one the equivalent $750, and the other around $1500, what would be the cost to convert them to RHD - Replacing the firewall, steering dampeners, steering box, dashpad, installing a heater and demister and rerunning the lines to the brake booster?

These vehicles are built to a higher specification than their european counterparts, and would be well suited at home.

Shipping home would not be that expensive.

    How popular would they be?

Let me know what you think...

    Toby

Cost to convert would outweigh the cost of the car, BUT if you find a donor RHD and you do it your self, then i could be worth while...

Hi there! I am aware that the cost would outweigh the initial purchase cost of the vehicle, but I'm hoping overall, if I was to buy a new firewall, and other bits associated with a RHD conversion, it would still pan out cheaper than buying one back home....

Would anyone know how much a "donor" car would be?? All it would need to have would be the firewall, heater and demister components, handbrake lever, brake lines and steering components..

Will it comply with ADRs? I think WA & NT allow LHD rego, and other states conditionally.

I know that Victoria will allow a car to remain LHD if it is over 33 years old.. As per ADRs, the 110s sold here did not have heaters or demisters until 1986. I have found a 1987 110 county to send home which has it all fitted, so it should comply.

Bessie however will need to have all this fitted if I was to bring her back...

Are you thinking of doing this as a business?

Surely after freight, conversion and all the rego stuff you'll be going through you'd be better offf with an Aussie County, I saw a 3.9l beauty on Ebay for about $7k. Which is top dollar for a county! But you get a lot of machine for that!

Firewalls and steering boxes, ball joints, I dread to think of all the niggly little things.

I am using the County as an exercise.

I am purchasing it for around 4000SR (around $1750) I will have it painted here for a further 4000SR ($1750.00) which is a bare metal respray. I can buy all the ARB gear here for a third of the price back home, old man emu 2.5" lift kit and shocks and steering dampener for a further 3500 SR ($1200). A full interior retrim is 2300SR ($900.00).

As you can see, I can get a lot of car for a lot less than the one on ebay. Add another 2000SR ($800.00) for shipping back home....
I can also get Chevrolets, GMCs, Fords etc, fairly cheap as well.

I honestly don't think you will make your money back on the 110's. If they were 90's you would be in with a shot.

Don't forget there are insurance issues with non Australian Delivered cars which makes them harder to sell.

The ARB stuff is a good idea though.

If you think in keeping the County for yourself after do a complete restoration then is Ok. The Countys are among the best LR IMO
I would try to fit a Chev diesel engine while you are there if they are cheap and available
