Thread: new fella advice wanted

    thanks guys.

    i appreciate the comments guys, can the tdv8 be fitted with 17in wheels and proper off road rubber, or wont the brakes let fitment. i dont mind having 20 in wheels for the street if it comes with them but i definately need good off road rubber so as not to comprimise off road capilibility.im leaning towards buying a tdv8 second hand and another set of wheels. i live in mackay and there is a dealer here for servicing but they dont instill much confidence in me, i wouldnt buy a new car from them. what size tyres and wheels for off road will fit. thanks tomcat.

    As above -- no it can't unless you mess around with or replace the brakes.

    255/55/19 Wrangler MTRs are the go offroad for these cars.

    I'd run 19s for the street, the ride is not the best with 20s.

    thanks rmp, i take it a tdv8 with 19s with 255/55 wranglers is the go but still not as good as a tdv6 with 17s for off road, im like most people i want my cake and eat it to. which is the best, tomcat

    The 'best' is a question only you can decide, it's your cash. All the info you need is above, choose one after a test drive. Personally I'd go TDV6 if I couldn't afford one of each!

    well i cant afford one of each, and wont be able to test drive them each off road with the different wheel combos before i buy, i dont want to spend that much money and then find out i made the wrong decision with wheel size. in your valued opinion does the 255/55 19s wrangler on the tdv8 comprimise its off road capilibity and are they good on the highway. thanks tomcat

    The 255/55/19 MTR is not a great onroad tyre. Doesn't handle well, tramlines a bit and is noisy. It does ok offroad but you can't air it down far, so limited overall. It can work, but more because of the overall excellence of the car overcoming the tyre.

    I would save the $ and get the TDV6 with its 17" rims. The TDV8 accelerates quicker and stops better, and it has the Dynamic pack for better cornering. But I don't think it's worth the extra overall, especially as tyre choice is compromised.

    Way too open a question Tomcat. Read some of the 2000 or so threads, especially in D3 Zone asking similar questions then come back.

    The other thing you need to do is ask yourself a serious question.

    How Much am I Going to USE IT OFFROAD?

    Given you are looking at a sport rather than a D3 tells me not much as the inside space is significantly less in a sport for long distance touring.

    Be honest with yourself on how you want to use it and let that guide your choice.

    Also, everyone's idea of "OFF ROAD" is different. Some people think a dirt road is off road while to others it can be a lot more than that. If the most you will ever do is some dirt roads or a bit of beach work every now and then, the 19's will be fine. If you intend to use it off road every other weekend or be a bit more serious then you may want to look more closely at the TDV6.
