Not well enough though and you shouldn't believe everything you read

Neither of us were right (it may seem)
Hundreds of inner-Sydney residents were taken to evacuation shelters when a BLEVE of unknown cause turned into a full-scale emergency. The incident occurred on 1 April (Sunday) at approximately 8.45pm at the Boral LPG distribution depot at St Peters, an inner-south industrial suburb. The massive explosion & blaze, with temperatures of several thousand degrees Celsius, burned for more than 8 hours as police & emergency service crews cordoned off a 3km radius safe zone.
From the bottom of the same page.

I do remember it being a Sunday as I had been on day shift - finishing at 1800, at the old Station 1

I used to have some footage from a security camera at the container depot of the 100tonne cylinder launching. --- SPECTACULAR

From memory Cairns would have been '87 - '88. It was behind the Cape York pub so may have in a private siding. My original guess must have been made during a senior moment

I took with me the sympathy and personal concern of the Prime Minister (Mr Malcolm Fraser) to the relatives of those who had lost aged relatives in Sylvania last night and comfort and encouragement to those many aged and disabled men and women who have survived this disaster. I know that all honourable members will support these sentiments. It was Sydney's worst fire disaster. I stand here tonight moved by the horrifying fact that 16 aged people in the twilight of their years were so gruesomely killed. I stand here moved by the resilience of those grand old and not so old folk who have survived an event which has shocked my district. Only five months ago five brave young bushfire volunteers were incinerated in a bush fire at Waterfall only a few miles from Sylvania.

    Unhappy

About 16 years ago when i was in the CFA @ maffra we attended a fire in shed. As we were entering the building we heard a all mighty hiss and then a bang it was a 9 kg gas cylinder. It had been impinged by flame and the metal of the bottle tore in a "U" shape on the side . The tear was so clean everybody we showed thought it had been laser cut. It was very interesting moment when it happened only me and dry cleaners knew how close it was

I don't think that pile metal should need to be tagged.

    Automotive cylinder

The roof section ended up some 25-30m away.

Luckily for most stolen/torched cars in the scrub, by the time the guys get to them they have either vented or blown.

Both petrol and gas cylinders can and will create a Bleve, though it is not the norm. If either are in serviceable condition then they should vent off. When they do not vent off a Bleve usually occurs, followed by the associated fireball. Usually the fire associated with them venting off is not a major concern.
I have however seen them go off. Failed relief valves or inappropriate design / positioning.
There are far more than 2 Bleve's that have occured in Australia, just only a couple of big ones. I have pics of a truck diesel tank that caused a Bleve as it could not vent.
It is still something to be concerned about as it is an exposure while fire fighting, but not a reason to be banning them. If the fire gets hot enough to melt the cylinder, the last of your concerns are it becoming a Bleve.

Photos on the TV news for the VIC 09 bush fires show gas bottles still standing next to burnt down houses.
Found it real strange to see.
