Wasnt one of the reasons that Landrovers were created was due to the fact that there was excess production capacity left over from the war but nothing to make with it.

I would put necessary skills bases in such things as IT thru to steel workers, electricians, mechanics etc, in short every thing necessary to maintain infrastructure in the physical sense, the sort of stuff that can't be fixed from call centres in India or the Phillipines. The training of many people in these areas is thru apprentice schemes in large industry where they get the broad range of experience before moving into more specialised fields. Even if you've exported all your industry, infrastructure still demands the abilty to respond to crisis with experinced operators & technicians. I'm sure resources in these areas are considerably stretched in Victoria right now. What would be the cost without maintaining a skills base in, to me, this most strategic of areas, the maintenace of our society & communities. I believe these are what is at threat through the short sighted policies increasingly prevalent nowadays.

Exactly
In Ryazan russia, exactly this, told there members to go on strike in the railways
(you wiill be be ok!!) all lost their jobs and replaced by cheaper people from moscow , and "union" (mafia) now control them and will sucker punch them
after getting their new fees and repeat it etc etc, they are the other side of the coin fom the bosses
Incidentally best industry here in Ryzan (russia) is the arms industry
doing very nicely selling to India
No infrastructure being built etc !!!
friend works in the defence force, he tells me that guy HAD BEEN WARNED several times for Breach of contract and for failing to supply goods on time within the contract rules. He waited three months before announcing this just before the job summit for most effect. He use waterproof materials like goretex and choose to supply it to Macpac and others ahead of the defence force
I know who I would supply first the New Zealand army who will never go out of bussiness or a tent manufacturer who may not be here next week!!!!!
He brought a lot of it on himself, the NZ army were very aware of the fallout but he did not react to their phone calls etc
so ther are two sides to every story, the media or other people did not ask why, just reacted, perhaps he is a bad manager? and brought it on himself,
they also tried to find some else inside New Zealand:wasntme:
Read the artical he didnt even have a contract with the army his contract was with ossie company YAKKA (guess who owns them). They sent work to china not the NZ army but that would not make the same headlines would it.
NEVER TRUST THE MEDIA TO REPORT ACCURATLY they will spin as good as any govt will.:p
Yes it was Yakka but he was well aware that he had to supply the New Zealand army via Yakka, apparently he chose to ignore the contract with Yakka and the army and supply other people who he did the work for, he was assured directly if he supplied the army CORRECTLY he would have a long term future , again he chose NOT to perform after being approached directly from the army as well as Yakka, again I can only repeat, who is likely to be a long term contract and to protect your businessand your workers who you say you value, the Army who will never run out of money or a tent.clothing place who may and do fold every week, its a no brainer
I am not defending the guy or the army, there are two sides to every story thats all, I am in bussiness and I would look after my biggest contract
with all my heart and take warnings on board!!!
and the media have never asked the army WHY only reacted to it not investigated which is a problem in the media today, sell papers and do not let facts get in the way of selling papers
No argument about him doing the wrong thing you proberbly have better info than me about that. I was asking how many things can the media get wrong before its just a lie. The army didnt cancel Yakka did he would have been notified by yakka not the army or NZ gov. The NZ army would not have notifed him that Yakka were pulling their work Yakka would have they would also have told him why if it was performance based decision none of which was in the story they print it the way they want you to read it ie: blame the gov and the army if he had been doing the job properly maybe he would still have the work.
