1974 was pretty much just a rain depression by the time it got here to brissy..
about 63 there was a cyclone that battered alexandra headland and maroochydore and there was a reasonable sort of storm surge as i remeber 5-6 foot of sea foan covering the beach and foreshore up to some of the houses over the road at alex.
i was staying on the beach front at alex when it hit. was a bit of a big night and day.. the big old fridges being blown about like paper bags and dual axle vans going end over end into the bush but more importantly my sister and i's new bucket and spades stayed put on the back stairs
there was another small one that hit from just north of brissy to the gold coast in the early 70's when broadbeach island caravan park was still there... was staying there in an old army tent and it managed to survive... spent a long few hours hanging on the the poles and tigthening ropes![]()
