Not long after I bought the Disco I had a bullbar fitted...like most of us.
I also attached 2 rated recovery hooks along the upper surface of the bar. MASSIVE MISTAKE!
I didn't realise that fitting the recovery hooks there compromised the airbags... a big no no and also, even a light weight snatch recovery would cause substantial distortion to the bar.
Well the ineveitable damage to the bar has been annoying me for ages so today, I decided to remove the bar and try bashing the bejesus out of it to get it straight again...all to no avail.
I started looking around the garage and spotted the until now unused 'extra jaw' on my Repco hilift jack.
Not being a big user of this bit of my gear, I just wondered if I could make it do what I needed......
With Mrs Wardyholding the bar as it rested on the main lifter, I bolted in the extra jaw in line with the top flat bit of the bar (I'd already removed the hooks), with a bit of rubber in between, and operated the handle... it worked like a very large and powerful vice.....MAGIC!
Now the bar is straight again.... well not perfectly, but much better than it was, and the spotties are now re-aimed oh, and one other thing, I gave the winch fairlead an good going over as well.
What a great sunday.

I used one once to fit the sheeps-foot skin to a drum road roller. Makes a passable winch too, I've heard. I wouldn't trust my old jack to do either of those jobs now, though, but it still works......just.
