I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago... towing a 2.5 ton trailer with my 110 from Victoria to Queensland - and it rained most of the trip. Roundabout at Raymond Terrace, no cars in roundabout, car in front starts to go then stops - I hit the brakes but because of the wet slide 15 meters (had new BFG AT's all round btw) and rear end them. And somehow it's my fault?! To make it worse I'm under 25 so my excess is $1000 despite being a rating 1 driver...

On the positive, no damage to the Defender - can't say the same about their car.

Yes, when I think about it and get angry at the other driver for starting then stopping... I just think well, they'll be without their car for at least a couple of weeks whilst it gets the rear end completely rebuilt so that's probably punishment enough for them being a numpty (sorry Numpties).

I, on the other hand, get a couple of nice new bits to replace the still quite nice other nearly new bits, and they will just bolt on in 5 minutes.

    G'day Solmanic

It may be worth giving BOR a call, as they have a couple of late Defenders in their yard out the back including an 08 that went swimming (Stat WO)

    cheers

Holy cr@p! You're right Uncle Ho... they even have an 07 Defender on their website. A silver one that looks like it was bent in the middle and another silver one that was obviously a roll-over and almost completely demolished. I had no idea people were wrecking these things at such a rate. I'll give them a call on the off chance there is a post 2007 compatible bullbar floating around.

    G'day Solmanic

There is a silver one up there with a kinda bent front, tree dead centre, driver went to sleep, legs got a bit banged up, the 08 Defer that went swimming (in salt water) has about 400 something KLMs on the clock there is a fair variety of Defers and Disco 1,2,3 up there and a heap of Freebees.

Paul would be the person to ring, tell him that Kevin with the walking stick put you on to him.

    cheers

The line in my sig block comes from an annotation to a crash test thing done in a cars mag back in 2000 or 2001 when I was in sydney.

It was one of those chance encounter things in a waiting room somewhere (so far as I recall)

it listed a heap of cars on a single page and their crash test rating, the some cars scored 0 and the deefer scored 0*

at the bottom of the page as part of the table as the following.

(*) In a Land Rover The other car is your crumple zone.

Given that it was the biggest car in the test and the only thing that I recognised as having a chassis proper I wasnt surprised....

    now you know.
    Dave

"In a Landrover the other vehicle is your crumple zone."

For spelling call Rogets, for mechanicing call me.

It still seems to me like there are a LOT of 07 Defenders getting wrecked (written-off). If British Off-Road have currently got THREE and I have seen at least another three pop up through Pickles over the past year. In a market where the vehicle has only been on sale for 18 months and in relatively low quantities. As a comparison, BOR only have ONE D3 wrecking on their website.

Are we new Defender drivers just too accident prone? I might have to start wearing knee-pads and a stack-hat everywhere....

.....oww, just got my pinky caught under the "enter" key...

Question Good Body Shop in Brisbane

    OK an update...

The Defender is at the dealer's for some warranty work and although the scratched and bent bits are all bolt-on, my insurer insists that the repairs must be handled through a body shop . The problem is that the grille fascias come primed from Land Rover, but not painted, so I need a body shop to do that and therefore handle all the other stuff.

    SO....

Who can recommend a decent body shop in Brisbane - preferably western suburbs? The work is soooo minor but I just know that every time the dealer has sent my vehicle to their usual wallys it has come back with more wrong than when it went in (overspray is usually the issue).
