Oh no I ran over my son's bike...

Backing out my Disco this evening I felt a slight rear wheel elevation. Knowing that my son had been out earlier on his bike I instinctively had that sinking feeling and immediately stopped and move forward ... of course damage had been done. Carbon fibre road bike (Felt F5) about 4 weeks old .. broken rear derailleur and fractured rear stay and seat post part of frame just below seat post, as well as rather distorted wheel ....
(My guess is that that once fractured, these carbon fibre bikes are up the creek without a paddle....)

A long time ago in a place far away - I had a drinking buddy who was an engineer who dabbled in carbon fiber. Like fiberglass, you can wrap more CF around the fractures ( It won't look pretty but for a bike it should work) but the problem will be finding an industrial oven to cook it in.

But really, carbon fibre bike left in the driveway?

There are different resins that can be used that don't require heating. The resin we were using with it definately didn't require baking - we were definately using West System for fibreglass, and I think we were using the same for Carbon fibre aswell.

What sort of policy would cover that do you think?

Just regular comprehensive I would have expected. The value of claiming may not be there unless the bike is really expensive though.

I was going to say upon reading that at least your son was not sitting on the bike... but seems a bit unaplikable now
