i'd invest in a long range fuel tank and a good set of spotties ;)
How about, NRMA Platinum Road Side Service.:wasntme:
For me, it would be a small laptop with XP windows for my "New Nanocom"
I agree entirely with Mike's list :)
Top of the list should be a recovery kit and tirfor.
How many times on the forum have we read where a member has had to recover someone else who had nothing but a drink holder in his vehicle.
I agree with Tombie,
Spend your money preparing a reliable vehicle - all the recommended services, good reliable battery, and all the niggling things which arent quite correct with your vehicle. Get a few spares like a uni or fan belt and a good workshop manual and set of tools. Save up the rest for the holiday.
Too many people spend heaps on all the recovery gear to go to Fraser or Cape York or Kimberleys when all you really need is a good reliable vehicle. Spend the money on your holiday unless you have something specific like having to go up Gun Shot or Big Red.
Then when away, learn what you really need for next time - communication gear, nav gear, recovery gear, vehicle accessories ... $1,000 doesn't go that far after all.
Having said that, you do have to be mindful of your fuel range. Also. holidays are for fun - good fridge - second battery ...
