I put this in the Discovery pages by mistake, more suited to here.

I did a search earlier about oil to run in the TD5 and the overall consensus seemed to be use Penrite Diesel HPR5.

So I toddled off to AutoBarn Logan to buy it and it was $99.99 for 10 litres, bugger I thought that is a bit high, so I packed the kids back in the car and went down to SuperCheap Springwood and the same stuff $84.98, so I checked the other things I was going to get and they were also 10-15% cheaper.

AutoBarn is my choice of supplier but I am going to have to shop around more. AutoBarn also had the Oil in 20lt drums $189.00.

Are there any cheaper suppliers?

Oh and the other thing SuperCheap was selling Silicon hoses, all gerneric but has anyone had any dealings with these?

Danny, I only pay about $70 for 10L of the Penrite, but then I can also get Castrol Edge for $42 for 5L and Syntrax for $22 a litre too

Check the price of the 5L containers when buying a 10L it can sometimes be up to $10 cheaper to buy 2x5L than 1x10L. The only nice thing about having a 10L is it has a tap at the base and you can just sit it on top of the engine and let in run in the hole

I use the caltex equivalent - Fully Synthetic HALVOLINE SAE 5W-40 ( AP1-SM/CF) from the Caltex depot (open to the public) I paid $135 per 20l drum just before Christmas.

I hope you told Autobarn your thoughts

I had a friendly chat with our Autobarn during the latest oil crisis. I was told that due to the barrel the prices of all oils are to increase by 20-30%. It is something we all have to get use to, or so I was told.

Well as we all now know, the barrel price has tanked and it is cheap as chips.

So why has this not been reflected in the price??? $100 for 10 litres....yeah right.

Same thing has happened with lead acid batteries - the price rose 30-40% as metals went throught the roof, now lead is worth stuff all and battery prices are still rising.

Went to the 4WD/ Tinnie/ boat/ camper/ K/F/S show in Brisvegas on Friday.
ARB were selling identical 20 plas jerries for $40 as the one I purchased the week before for $25 at Big W! Given ARBs size and buying power, the 'economies of scale' defense is moot.
I could discern no 'Show special' prices for winches, Hilifts, tyres etc.
Anyone there late on Sunday? Were there any 'runout' specials?

I thought the price was steep but might have been due to syn oil.

I will shop around more I guess, just don't want to put the wrong stuff in and cause issues.

Modern diesels gotta love them.

Hi Danny.
I always found that Queensland Diesel Spares had good prices on bulk oils.
Queensland Diesel Spares (QDS)
Ipswich Road, Rocklea is the one I visit.

I've also found that Supercheap have better pricing than Autobarn. However for oils and filters I find Big W is the best so long as they stock what you want.
