Hi miky, my mother got a text message that asked her to enter a 4 digit code to activate the service.

Her did not enter the code and just deleted the message but she kept getting messages, she did not respond to them, just kept deleting them but the next phone bill she got, there were 10 x $6 charges on it and when I queried it with Optus they told me it had nothing to do with them but they gave me a number to ring and once there I cancelled the service but couldn’t find out how to get the money back.

The next bill had another 4 x $6 chargers that had been clocked up before we cancelled.

My mother never entered any code numbers but these thieves still charged her and the law seems to be on their side

I got a telemarketer a while back and they rang back again, later in the day, same voice I answered the phone and in my best '007' type voice very matter of factly asked how they got an operations number for the AFP, and that this number was used for operations purposes only and that we are about to engage in a raid on a huge warehouse filled with suspected contraband cigarettes in conjunction with the customs etc so get off the line and don't EVER call this number again, and they were quite put out!

Yea, heard that one before ... it's a classic! When we get telemarketers at work, one of the solicitors asks the caller how they got the number as it's a secure line... asks for the company details etc. He does it so well too!
