There is a good chance it is not the cable. These symptoms are consistent with the speedo drive gear slipping on the transfer case output shaft. To fix this, disconnect the rear prop shaft and tighten the big nut on the end of the shaft.

The non-functioning odometer is likely to be the odometer itself, probably with a seized and stripped gear.

    (12000km in a SIIA with a SIII 2.25D)

you'll notice I'm not shouting... WE were smart enough to remember the ear plugs

And I now remember reading that thread too So much for my memory!
Hope to do plenty more km's, so I will remember next time.

    12,000km

How did your right foot/ankle go? - I found it cramping up with the awkward angle my throttle foot was at. I'm thinking of rigging up a choke cable as a hand throttle (70's cruise control??)

    Doesn't disengage when you brake!

I had this set up on my old BJ40 Cruiser - It sat just above the throttle peddle. Was really good for low speed bouncy 4wding - eg: river crossings - where it can be harder to maintain constant throttle.

I used to use it for highway cruising - you rest your foot under the accelerator peddle and can pull the peddle up to disengage it; before braking.

Ummm ... yes a little naughty, I know.

Right foot etc were fine. Mine is ex-military - so has a factory hand throttle
