Bugger orf...I thought we had till May to hear from you....oh and I have NFI as well

I'm feeling like quite an idiot this evening.
I picked up my Merc from the mechanic today and drove it home after having "that" snapped off stud extracted from the head and a few other jobs, including a water pump.
It drove well and I was bloody happy, till I decided half an hour later to lift the bonnet. I gave the top radiator hose a squeeze and it was as solid as a rock. When I opened the rad cap there was a huge release of pressure. I decided to start the engine with the cap off and the coolant was coming out like a fountain half a metre into the air.
The oil wasn't contaminated and all other signs seemed to suggest the head gasket was OK.
I have NFI what to do from here....
Well I have limited access to this forum now and that's my whinging for the day done.

I think there seems to be some miscommunication here.
The coolant was cool enough to the touch and the level is still more or less correct.
What I'm concerned about is the fact that after only running for even ten or so seconds, the cooling system has been pressurised to buggery - surely indicating the head gasket is leaking gases into the water jacket.
Not necessarily a head gasket- could be a cracked cylinder wall or cyl head![]()
How old is the merc? Does it have an expansion tank? Can you see the water squeezing back in to the expansion tank?
Alloy head? Bet it's warped, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
