Six pink & grey birds make a fair old mess of your car too

I hit a pidgeon at 120km/h in the Pootrol... it hit the top tube of the bull bar and EXPLODED in a puff of bloody feathers and innards!

    ...all over the windscreen.

Last time I hit a skippy-roo-laa was about 3 months ago, again in the patrol (luckily not my Fairmont! )

It was a little grey bugger and he jumped off an embankment and landed in front of me a-la "beam me down Scotty!"

Caught him with the o/side post of the bully, right in the sternum - ripped his chest cavity open throwing one of his lungs onto the bonnet and tearing his heart and aorta to pieces causing them to vent their contents all over the truck.

It was too late to wash it off when I got home so I left it in the paddock. The next morning it was covered in lick marks where the dog had been licking the blood off...

Also put a decent dent in the quater panel and smashed an indicator. Oh well - it's only MY truck when it suits me.

I was posted in remote bush posting (desert area) and drove almost 300k (one way) to do a school of the air police talk (as in they had a school of the air students Xmas camp at one of the stations and i went there to meet the kids in person and do a talk about our work and show off our stuff etc. etc.)

On the way up I scored a couple small roos as I was driving from just before dawn for a 9am appointment time.

On the way in I collected santa at an arranged point to escort him in lights and sirens etc...kids love that stuff and it saves explaining why 6 white boomers cant just make their way up to the station!!...

Santa hoped in we had loaded all the pressies in the back and off we went...
I had done the police troopy up with tinsel and stuff so wasnt that surprised when all the adults were laughing, pointing and taking photos....

the kids were all laughing and I delivered santa and his toys and then moved the car over so I could get ready to show it all to the kids...

imagine my surprise when I walked around the front to find the top half of a fair sized roo suspended from the bullbar, (he was dark grey luckily- coz if it was light or white it may have upset some - boomers and all at xmas!) he was caught with his head between the winch controller box and the spotlight (birdgrill) protector mesh.... in amongst silver and blue tinsel..and his bottom half...well I suspect it was 80 or so Kms away becoming a wedgetail smorgasboard!

As I said it was lucky they were all country and station kids they didnt think anything of it!! But a little embarrasing for me! The photos pop up in xmas and b'day cards every now and again and that was 17 years ago!

    Two come to mind....

Back in the 80s I had a large parrot come in the window of my Ute and then it proceeded to attack me wile I was doing over 100 kmh

The other was when I hit a hollow log in my series 1 and the clutch stayed down. I thought a bit of wood may be wedged in the linkage . I crawled under and found a rabbit that was in the log had been launched into the clutch set up under the floor

    Lucky it wasn't a snake.
