mmmm i had an old 56 chrysler royal v8( loved that car) anyway for some reason the cat decided to sleep or rest on the tailshaft or back of gearbox- I usually give the car some in the cold mornings- cold v8's sounds nice, but that morning it was vroom, vroom, vroom clunk clunk clunk.
I can kill a sheep or cow and gut it but i just couldnt look at the poor cat- had to get the wife to do it, so she bagged it up and buried it before the kids got home- the story was it had run away.

Some years ago one of our cats decided to venture somewhere under the engine bay in the Series III (or it could have been the SIIa - can't remember). Anyway ... it flew out at a rate of knots when it was started up. Thankfully, she was okay, apart from a bent tail, which she still has to this day.

But SNAKES ... now you've got me worried and even more paranoid than usual!

Talking of which ... I HATE running over animals, & am pleased to say I've only killed 2, one a rabbit on a bike, the other a duck not long ago which flew into the corner of the Series III. Then a couple of weeks ago, I ran over a snake as it was crossing the road near Orange. Horrid experience it was ... slithering across the road, then "crack" as I ran over it. Despite the fact I loathe them, still felt bad about it, & felt it was very bad Karma. Well, let me tell you it was. One of the worse weekends I can remember in a very long while. So bad in fact, I decided for a while there to sell the Series III & buy a motorbike instead!

I feel a bit guilty because the day before it happend i found the same snake crawling in through a hole in the fly screen of dads window.
I caught it and just let it go on the verandah and closed the window, if i had of taken it further away it wouldn't have happend
As you may know we are snake lovers and keep them so that makes it worse

I can understand how you would feel bad! At least it's a lesson learnt. I for one make sure I know where the cats are before starting up the Landie, most especially the deaf cat. A bit hard with snakes, but at least the next time you come across one you can move it further away.

Hopefully I've got too many other animals to put snakes off wanting to go under the bonnet. I swear, next time I check the oil & water, will be a very nervous exercise opening that bonnet!

Haven't had a snake go through the fan but I remember driving along in our series III when I was little and having a snake head pop out of the vent right in my face. Mum pulled over pretty quickly and as it was just near our driveway we parked the car and left it there for the rest of the day. Still don't really know how it got where it was but it made a boring trip a bit more lively.
