Land Rover off road tour company, thoughts needed on project

It as always been our intention to work for ourselves and run a nice B+B/cottage accommodation, and of course we have more opportunity to do this in Oz, as a side line to this we were thinking what we could do that involved Land Rovers. We came up with the idea off Land Rover Luxury tours, based in tropical Queensland ( as that’s were we would like to be ) I know there’s 4wd tours up there, but I am not aware of any using Land Rover products, D3, maybe 110 would be good, there recognised round the world as the ultimate 4wd, and what would be better than being picked up at the airport in a fully kitted D3 taken to your luxury cottage, and then have the opportunity to see that part of the world in a nice 4wd, now iam not talking about extreme off road, and a lot of it would be on road, but it would offer something different.

Constructive feed back would be appreciated…

    Hi

I have lost count of the number of people who have tried and failed at your concept. Being involved in the tourism industry for over 25 years it isnt that straight forward as you think to set up a project as you described. Many areas need to investigated before you run out and put your hard earned dollars into it.

Heres a few thinks to consider:

    1. Accreditation as a tourism operator.
    2. Getting your vehicle registered in the right category.
    3. Can you legally pick up at Airport (most airports theses days require tourist operators to be accredited for that airport)
    4. Advertising (where are you going to get these people coming from) and type of client your looking at. I.E. Professional people or your average tourist.
    5. Cost Factors involved in your accommodation and touring package.
    6. Is it value for money and whats included.

Theirs a start for you to consider. Myself i wouldn't be starting a business like that for a while. The global recession hasn't hit Australia yet. In Australia we are about 12 month behind in terms of tourism. Overseas people we are getting now and in the next few months are pre booked from maybe 12 months ago. End of this year you will see a downturn in tourism numbers.

I hope im wrong and you start up your dream and it is succesful for you but all i can advise is research it fully take It might cost your a few dollars but it may save you from making a mistake

Thank you for your thoughts on the project, i totally agree its not a walk in the park setting any business up either a new one or taking over a old one, and iam well aware of what effort would need to be put in, Points 1 -5 my thoughts

Heres a few thinks to consider:

    1. Accreditation as a tourism operator.

Yep will need to get that ( no idea how )

    2 explain ( again no idea )

3 I can pick any one i like up from the airport if they are my guest

4 Thats classified information, we have a number of ideas, and are both well traveled, and know exacly our target market to be, alot of this of course is based on years of research in the field. and still lots to do.and lots to learn.

5 Again that falls into 4

6 As above, and yes it will be value for money, one thing i hate is paying over the odds for rubbish, and its amazing what people charge for utter crap.

People will always have holidays its a way of life, travel to Oz is no different, infact better deals are offered in these times, value for money is a important factor, and offering a great product to your local market is just as important, Air Asia X now offer flights from the UK to the gold coast, at bucket prices, there GC to KL legs are opperating at 85% load factors, and Virgin V have just kicked off there US flights, so theres hope there.

And thank you for your thoughts, kind of what my old man would say..Lol

here is the driver authorisation side of it

Driver authorisation is issued to the driver for different categories of public passenger services. The categories and definitions for the different driver authorisations are:

    • Taxi service—a service provided by a taxi operating under taxi service licence issued by Queensland Transport.
    • Limousine service—a service provided by a limousine operating under a limousine service licence issued by Queensland Transport.
    • General services—services including charter, tourist (general and off-road), accommodation transfer, tourist transfer, and non-specific public passenger services.
    • Scheduled services—services including urban, minor, school and long distance scheduled services.
    • Motorcycle tour—a tourist service provided in a motorcycle, motor tricycle or motorcycle and sidecar.
    • Courtesy services—services provided free of charge by an entity using a vehicle owned or leased by the entity for customers, clients or students of the entity.
    • Community services—services funded or subsidised out of public money, or by a charity, and provided for the benefit of a particular group.

It sounds like you have some good conceptual ideas. Do all the research until you are comfortable moving forward and give it a go.

After all, its better to fail when giving something you love a go, than succeeding in doing something you dislike.

Tread carefully and listen to all (constructive) criticism and only the only people you really have to convince of the workability of the concept are yourselves.

Best of luck to you, keep us informed on how things are travelling

    Cheers
    Jason
