Brought up in Belmont just a few Ks north - all my family still live on the Central Coast - I lived on the Central Coast for 10 years - used to drive through Wyong every day and bought my landie spares at the landie place at the Wyong end of Tuggerah Straight.Quote:

Approx 1 hour to parts of Sydney allowing for traffic.
15 mins to the beaches, choice of lots of them.
5 mins to the lake and river and boatramps
5 mins to major shopping
1 min to golf or even less if that's where you will be living
10 mins to 4wding areas at Ourimbah
75 mins to Stockton beach
5 mins to local LR expert. Keeping my Freeby and Disco on the road.

The worst sealed roads in Australia, the worst drivers and the roundabout capital of the World, when I lived up that way you used to ask the girls " you married or do you live at Wyong", but that was a long time ago, the girls that is. Regards Frank.
Maaate, I moved to Avoca Beach at the Central Coast 2 1/2 years ago by moving only 25Km from Mona Vale and I love it. There is good and bad and Wyoming, Wyong , Bateau Bay, Umina are considered downmarket . AFAIK the demographic is pretty down and Gosford has avery large Centrelink. Lots of (very) young ladies pushing prams.Quote:

I picked up my grandchildren from Kellyville this morning . Got on Glenhaven Road and the traffic was banked up 1Km to turn left into Old Northern Rd and another 5Km to Round Corner. And this is OUTBOUND in morning peak.
Got off the F3 at Gosford and got to Avoca Beach with AFAIR 1 stop at lights. The traffic flows smoothly and the major roads are fine. So everything is relative. I bitch about it too UNTIL I have to drive in even the outskirts of Sydney. Wyong Rd would have to be the most roundabout intensive Rd in Australia, but having said that I still use it when going North as it saves 1/2 hour vs via Gosford and onto the expressway.( and its fun taking a line through the roundabouts when the traffic allows)
You are correct about some of the roads eg The Round Drive at Avoca would have to be one of the worst roads in Australia, but they are fixing it!!! LOL. I often find hubcaps.
However the whole Central Coast is changing rapidly and growing, not the least through the enormous number of high value retirement estates.
Makes driving at Erina Fair exciting on pension day, but funnily enough my closest calls recently were both tradies in 4WDs who tired to drive me off the road when I was driving my BMW.

When I lived in Sydney, a popular name for the area was the Grey Coast. 'Twas said you had to be 65 to be allowed to buy property there.

I will admit from the start i'm a born and bred gosford boy so hating wyong has been breed into me, but the there are many places near wyong that are great to live.
i love the central coast, except in tourist season, its a great place to grow up and live, has pretty much everything u need, and if you have to the big smoke isn't to far away.
Yes Wyong shire quite possibly has the highest number of round-a-bout per capita in the world but its better than traffic lights.
I wouldn't rule out moving there all together, just chose the right area, as a general rule the closer to the beach the better.
