Hmm good question!

I think the poms are still using a variant of the 300Tdi, Australia are obviously using the Isuzu 4BD1...

I can't even think of any armies that *widely* use the TD5!

I know that many have a few TD5s (including Australia) but not a whole fleet...

As for the Puma - well that's anyone's guess...

A new military Land Rover was developed for the Malaysian Armed Forces by Land Rover Malaysia and Sasbilt Technologies Malaysia and is based on the newer Puma Defender range. It's available as a 6x4 and 6x6 with the 'mean wheelbase' measuring 147 inches (3750 mm). In Malaysia, Military Defenders are imported via CKD (Complete Knock Down) kits and assembled at a dedicated plant there. This derivative uses modular bodies which are specifically designed for a wide range of applications dependant on MINDEF requirements.

Key Features and Specifications (from official Land Rover Malaysia specs)
- Selectable with ease when necessary for 6x4 and 6x6 drive options.
- Lower loading height, lower visual profile and more stable defense systems platform than 'truck' type architectures.
- High spare parts and servicing compatibility with other Land Rover vehicles including powertrain commonality.
- All Defender vehicles have similar driving characteristics, providing significant advantages when operating in conjunction with other Land Rovers.
- Rear Body interchangeability options.
- High Payload carrying capability - 3000KG Payload (The Basic 6x6 Chassic/Cab vehicle provides an allowance of 3,000 kg for optional fittings and equipment, rear body, payload and crew)
- All derivatives are air-stransportable in a Hercules transport plane, normally 2 vehicular units per aircraft without preparation.
- This includes the Ambulance and Maintenance vehicles with modular type rear bodies. High Standard of 'Cross Country' capability over the roughest terrain, manouvreability, agility, and ride stability.

The Australian Army have quite a few TD5 Defenders, I don't know how many but you see them often. I drove one the other day from Marysville, Vic to Broadmeadow, the first time I had driven a TD5. We were the most military looking vehicle in the convoy ( the rest were mostly Hiaces) and lots of people were waving to us but ignoring the other vehicles.
