    toyota must be mad

in a moment of boredom i had a look through a couple of hiluxes earlier in the week and noticed something really wierd about the trim

4x2 Workmate (pov pack) Dualcab: carpet on the floor, vinyl seats
4x4 SR (slightly upmarket) Dualcab: Vinyl on the floor, cloth seat facings, vinyl seat backs
4x4 SR5 (technically top of the range): carpet on the floor, cloth on all seat surfaces
4x4 TRD (top of the range, sporty model): same as an SR, Vinyl on the floor, cloth seat facings, vinyl seat backs

    now, think about it

1: why does the pov pack thats a "work" model get carpet on the floor, but the next trim level up gets the vinyl?
2: wtf is with giving the top of the line hilux a lower trim spec than an SR5?

    no wonder TuRD failed!

hahaha - yes you have a point there. And what would of been interesting is the price comparison between the povpac and top of the line. Im sure the extra $$ wanted doesnt justify the vinyl...

Yeah, but if you are looking at the SR the salesman always has a "mate" that can make up carpets for the floor.

You left out a few things:
    1. Centre lap belt (not lap-sash inertia belt) for middle passenger in rear seat of dual cabs.
    2. SR - Electric windows, but not electric mirrors
    3. Paint quality is very, very ordinary to put it mildly.

The old Hilux's mightn't have been a great car - personally I could never stand the seats, very uncomfortable - but they did deserve the unbreakable label, something the new ones definitely don't deserve.

And if you want to have a really good laugh, compare a 5 seater Land Cruiser Workmate to a new Defender and factor in that it is nearly $20,000 dearer (with A/C) than the Land Rover.

Speaking of 'lux's. In the R.F.S. up here we just got a few Defenders on trial period for their 7 seater capability... the others on the market have rated seats so we can't use them as the rating is to low. On a shift change we need to have 1 driver and 6 crew so we need the 7 seats.

the R.F.S in their wisdom have decided that because 2 brigades are unhappy with their Defenders they will get each brigade a Hilux... no one yet has figured out how it has 7 seats but hey....

Even better the brigades reason for not liking the Defender was Brigade 1: Key goes in on the wrong side and we can't find it.
Brigade 2: they crashed it and are annoyed that the vehicle has flaking paint in the impact spot.

I think the arguments why to not keep the Defenders says a lot about the brigades more then anything.

the stupid thing is toyota could make the seats out of marshmallows and people would buy them because they are toyotas and toyota fans are brain washed into thinking toyota is good value for money.

the missus wanted a dualcab ute and she didnt even have to open the door when we looked at the hilux, she looked in the window and said this is **** lets look at something else. I have trained her well
