Today I enjoyed myself immensely. Misses and the chillens, (Including a cold headed Bethy) spent most of today at work doing much needed jobs on the RR.
Locked the gate, closed the roller door and got into it.
(Couldn't keep 2_door out though, although he DID invite himself the day before....)
There is something about working on a vehicle that has history. Our children have grown up in it, we've travelled some big distances in it, before I bought it it had done 250K most of it around this vast country. The engine I fitted to it out of my uncles 110 had travelled 400K around the big island since 1988. The Defender Diffs under it came from a hardworking character filled 130DC, Every scratch, dent and rattle can be traced back to its origin. The mods and additions/subtractions can be plainly seen and every one has a purpose and story behind it. When it has been parked in the sun for a bit, you can open the door and the scent of quality leather hide wafts at you, the pink ochre of central Australia is embedded in every door hinge and crack. The rooflining is thick with it.
This vehicle is like an old and dependable machine/ implement. I know it will get me where I want to go, and do it without fuss and in style
So, today while servicing the rear wheel bearings and fitting up some brake pads and changing all the driveline oils, I felt quite content.

I was talking to a older pommy bloke here last night ( An Austin restorer and Rover owner driver) Met him when I got the 4BD1 120 as was the only person here that knew what it was.... Hard to explain this but the feeling of well restored and well maintained older machinery be car of other with this gentleman was unbelievable. Was like going back in time

Did the same thing myself today aint it grandGot Roof rack on, Awning on, Dual battery in and straped down (not connected) winch in and the control box drilled and positioned, Front recovery points in.
All in all a good day, Although I am sorn now
Tomorrow we're off to Caloundra to pick up the new fridge!

I am enjoying cleaning up and maintaining my Defe as I enjoyed my time on the BMW bikes.
For some reason I was not attached to the Disco Tdi300Perhaps because my previous LR was a Stage 1 109 ?
